I HAD A THOUGHT

It was two o'clock in the morning

And I woke out of a sound sleep
With the thought of a poem
From my mind to put on paper and keep

But the excitement of the moment

Was not the poem I had to write
But knowing that soon in the future
Thousands would be reading it some lonely night

For a writer has a power

That few ever knows exist
That he controls peoples thoughts and their patterns
Through the books and the words through his publicist

Such a power should be guarded

By the people who write
For they alone have that power
To fill the head of people on sleepless nights
