Danica Joo

I watched him walking toward his seat, examining him for a moment.
No bruises, broken bones and not even a scratch! He looks fine to me…this liar.
He yelled at me like crazy yesterday. Like he’ll gonna get killed or something
because of a prank call. Urgh. Just thinking about it again gives me the creeps.
I looked away. “Psh. But why am I a bit relieved?”
*****
Mico tapped me on the back. I glanced at him.
“Something you want to tell me?” he asked.
I grinned as a reply.
“Have you seen my pouch yesterday on my seat?” I asked, changing the subject.
His smile faded slightly and thought for a moment.
“No, I don’t think so.”
“It wasn’t in my bag when I checked it last night,” I pouted “My phone is in
there.”
“Well, I’m sure it’s around here somewhere,” he glanced around. “Don’t worry,
I’ll find it for you. What else was in there?”
“Just a little mirror, a brush…some girly stuff,” I sighed and zipped my bag on
my lap.
“You don’t really have to waste your time finding it for me,” I pushed a smile.
“It’s just a phone anyway.”
“Just a phone,” he mimicked, not believing me.
“I’m gonna find it, whether you like it or not,” he nudge me slightly on the
shoulders. “Smile for me, alright?”
I smiled.
*****
“Still don’t want to tell me what happened yesterday?” asked Mico for the Nth
time already.
It’s our break time and we’re already inside the cafeteria.
I laughed. “Why are you so worried? NOTHING bad happened. Why can’t you
just believe me?”
He smiled. “You really don’t want to tell me, do you?”
I stared at him for a moment then sighed. I leaned forward and made a serious
look. “Do you really wanna know?”
He sneered…then he did the same too.
We stared at each other. I wonder what excuse I’m going to make.
He grinned and with a slight whisper, he told me. “I hate to admit this but…I
wonder why I have a feeling that you won’t tell me the truth.”
I smirked. “Mr. Know-it-all”
I sat up straight again, still grinning.
Then someone entered the cafeteria.
I looked up to see who just arrived. It was Shin and the group of Shing-woo.
I eyed him nervously, frowning slightly as they went straight to the counter. He
didn’t look at me; not even a glance, and yeah, that’s good, really.
“Danica…Danica!” called Mico.
I quickly looked at Mico. “W-What?”
He sighed. “What’s wrong with you?”
I shook my head and grinned. “Come on, let’s eat outside.”
“Tell me first…what did he say to you?”
I pushed a laugh. “Ok…he just told me that…his…his grandpa wants to meet
me. That’s all, nothing to be worried about.”
I got up and picked my tray. “You coming or not?”
He grinned at me like there was something wrong to what I just told him. “And
why would his grandpa want to talk to you?”
There was a pause.
Oh shoot!! But I still tried to look calm, of course. I guess Mico really knows
that I’m lying huh?
I pushed a laugh. “Why, I can’t see anything wrong with it.”
“Anything you would like to explain, Danica?” he was still giving me that look
as if to say I shouldn’t dare lie to him.
I sighed. “Alright. I give up.”
I put my tray down. “He told me he has a crush on me, happy?”
Ok. I know that it was a totally stupid thing to say that…but what could I do? I
really had no choice.
His smile grew on his face. “Is that really true?”
“It’s absolutely true. So, come on,” I got my tray again.
He thought for a moment.
I made my puppy plead look on my face. “You seriously don’t want to go?”
He sneered. “When will I ever learn how to say no to you?”
I grinned at him. Gotcha!
He stood up and picked his tray.
“Oh, don’t try to learn it, Mico,” I told him with a smile. “That’d be really awful
for me, you know.”
He laughed.
Shin Ji-Hyun

“Crap, I think they’re going to eat outside,” Shing-woo told us as we took our
seats. He eyed them going out of the cafeteria.
I glanced up at them.
“Psh. Shouldn’t I be the one doing that?” I murmured as I quickly looked away
from Danica and Mico…
“Doing what?” asked Juno curiously.
I shook my head. “Nothing.”
“Yah, can you…ask if we could join them?” asked Shing-woo suddenly.
Then all of them stared at me intently.
“W-What?!” I snorted. “Hell no. Why would I?”
They continued to stare at me.
I gave them a warning look. They sighed and looked dismayed.
“Yappari<I knew this would happen>” Shing-woo suddenly groaned.
I glanced up at him curiously. For the love of God…don’t tell me he’s a
Japanese like Juno. I totally didn’t understand what he just said.
“Do-iu Imi?<What do you mean?>” asked Haru as he just finished his first
pizza.
What the—HARU TOO?!
“Yah! Baka-janai?!<Are you stupid or what?!>” Juno shouted, hitting Haru on
the head.
I quickly looked at Yuu. Dammit, could he also be Japanese?
He stared at me curiously. Holy spit. Don’t tell me ALL OF THEM are
Japanese!
Yuu looked away from me and continued to read the book he’s holding.
Then I watched Juno patting Shing-woo’s shoulder. “Shimpai Shinaide, Shing-
woo<Don’t worry Shing-woo>”
Damn, I must call grandpa immediately to get me a tutor. I must learn these
crappy Japanese words in order for me to understand these guys. It’s totally
freaki’n me out!
Yuu suddenly slammed his book shut. We all glanced at him. “I told you…”
“E?<What?>” asked Shing-woo. “Now what did you just say?!”
“I knew he won’t do it,” Yuu glared at him. “I don’t want to use—”
“Were not using anybody,” Shing-woo persisted.
“Well, it sure looks like it,” Yuu answered him back.
Ohh~…now I get it. These bastards.
“Yah…are you planning to use me…to get close to Danica and Mico?” I butted
in.
There was a moment of silence.
“$#%*. Look, whatever things you want me to do about them…just drop it, ok?
Hell, drop it.”
There was a moment of silence…again.

Then Haru grabbed another slice of pizza. We all stared at him.

“What? I couldn’t help it! Sorry.”
We laughed.
“Ok…I’m sorry,” Shing-woo admitted. “It was really stupid of me.”
“Were ALL sorry,” Corrected Juno. “But the stupidity part, yeah, it’s true. It
WAS really stupid of you Shing-woo.”
Shing-woo gave him a warning look. Juno grinned.
I smirked. “Come on, let’s eat. I’m starving.”
“Me too,” said Haru.
Juno hit him on the head again.
“Ow!”
We laughed.
*****
“You sure you don’t want some help?” asked Phoebe, the girl who kept
beaming at me every time I get into class. Her best friends looked at me eagerly
at her back.
I flashed a gleaming smile at her that I’m sure made her blush, but then I shook
my head. “Nah, I don’t want you girls to be late just because of me.”

“W-Well,” She looked dismayed. “If you’re sure.”

Then she slowly went out the classroom along with her best friends.
I could still hear their whispers as I started walking across the room. Tsk. Tsk.
Girls these days…

I took Danica’s pouch out in my bag and stopped on my tracks in front of her
chair.
I better put this back to where I got it. I smirked and held the pouch in front of
my face.
“Mico…Danica,” I sighed. “I guess I’ve become an obstacle between both of
you.”
I frowned slightly. “Unfortunately.”
Mico Kyo-Rin

“Shin, you coming or not?” I heard someone ask Shin just as I stood up. I turned
my pace to Danica’s seat.
“I think I lost my wallet,” Shin answered, I started walking.
He sighed. “I’ll just look for it…

“After everyone is gone.”

Just as I heard him say those words, it made me stop on my tracks.

“Everyone is gone? Why does it have to be like that?” Yuu laughed at him.
“Common, we’ll help you.”
‘Yuu’s right, why does everyone have to be gone?’ I thought to myself.
Shin smirked, “I can do it myself, thanks. You really don’t have to, you know.”
I glanced at Shin curiously. Hmmm. Something’s fishy here. Could he be…
*****
“Oh, shoot,” I glanced back and stopped walking down the stairs.
“What’s wrong?” asked Yool to me. Danica turned back to look at me, along
with the others.
“Oh let me guess, you forgot something, right?” Ji-eun shook her head slightly,
smiling slightly. “Everyone keeps forgetting things lately.”
The thought of that made us laugh a little.
“Yeah, I forgot something back there; I’ll just catch up later alright,” I went up
the stairs.
“I’ll come with you,” Danica started.
“No,” I quickly walked faster and reached the top of the stairs. “You don’t have
to. You’re hurt, remember?”
She stared at me then scowled.
“You’re hurt?” they all stared at her.
“Why would I be hurt…” she laughed, shaking her head. “Mico?”
She darted me a look. She doesn’t want anyone to know about it.
I winked.
*****
I met a group of girls in our class and quickly asked who’s left in the room…
Then I hurriedly run toward our classroom.
‘Shin,’ I thought to myself.
The door was still open, so I peeked in…just in time to see Shin placing
something on Danica’s seat.
I grinned and stood straight.
“It’s definitely him then,” I murmured to myself.
He sighed and turned his back to go out.
*****
“Mico,” he stared at me in shock, surprised by my sudden appearance. Then he
sneered. “I thought you were a ghost or something.”
He walked toward me. I made way for him to come out of the room.
I thought he was about to explain something to me before going, but then he just
passed me by like I didn’t catch him doing anything.
“I’ll go first then,” He muttered as he passed.
I grinned. This guy…
“Hey,” I turned to face him. “Why don’t you give it back to her personally?”
He smirked but he didn’t mind to stop walking. “Like you didn’t know the
reason.”
“But I don’t,” I answered quickly. I frowned as I watched his back. “Tell me…
“What happened yesterday?”

He then paused for a moment as I watched him in silence.

“Why don’t you ask that to her?” He asked back and raised his hand to wave
goodbye. “See ya.”
*****
I took Danica’s pouch on her seat and stood there for a second, staring at it
curiously.

Then I realized something. Wait a minute…

What’s Danica’s background picture?

I suddenly unzipped the pouch and pulled out Danica’s phone.

Then I flipped it open…

A picture of me and Danica appeared on the screen.
