begin a season 10-0 since SDPs RHP Andy Hawkins went 11-0 in 1985.
4/27 Recalled LHP Sammy Solis from Triple-A Syracuse...Places RHP Matt Belisle on the 15-day disabled
YOU HEARD THE MAN: STRIKEOUTS ARE SEXY
Nationals RHP Max Scherzer became the 26th pitcher in baseball history to tally 40 or more
10-plus strikeout games in his career when he struck out 11 Cubs batters on Monday night...
Scherzer, who did not walk a single batter in his 7.0 innings of work in the Nationals 4-1 victory, carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, before Cubs SS Addison Russell broke it up with
a solo home run to left field.
On Monday night, Scherzer struck out nine of the first 10 batters he faced, putting him in
another exclusive club... According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the only other pitchers in
baseballs expansion era (since 1961) to do that were Sandy Koufax (at Chicago, 1962),
Sam McDowell (at Detroit, 1966), Don Wilson (at Cincinnati, 1968), and Aaron Harang
(vs. San Diego, 2012).
PUT THESE GUYS ON YOUR BALLOT
The next round of National League All-Star balloting updates arent expected until Wednesday, but Washington boasts several position players building strong cases for consideration:
2B Daniel Murphy leads Major League Baseball in batting average (.361)...He leads the
National League and ranks among MLB hitters in multi-hit games (T2nd, 28), OPS (2nd,
.996), slugging percentage (3rd, .593) and hits (3rd, 87) while his .402 on-base percentage
is 11th in MLB and seventh in the National League...Murphys 2.8 Wins Above Replacement (per FanGraphs.com) ranks fifth in the National League.
C Wilson Ramos clubbed his 10th home run of the season on Monday night, a solo shot in
the sixth inning, making 2016 his fourth consecutive season with 10 or more home runs...
Ramos has hit safely in nine of his last 12 games, posting a .359 (14-for-39) average with
two doubles, four homers, 11 RBI, four walks and 11 runs scored during that span....Just
shy of qualifying for league leaders (3.1 PA/Team Game) Ramos leads all Major League
catchers (min. 190 PA) in batting average (.333), on-base percentage (.382), slugging percentage (.557) and fewest strikeouts (25)...Ramos also leads MLB catchers with 36 RBI
and his 10 home runs are tied for the MLB-lead....After hitting .229 in 2015, Ramos is the
only player in MLB to have increased his batting average at least 100 points from last year
to this year (min. 100 PA in 2016 / 500PA in 2015), per the Elias Sports Bureau.
RF Bryce Harper was second among all NL outfielders in voting as of the most recent
update (June 8) with 1,119,168 fan votes to date...Harper, the 2015 National League MVP,
is second in MLB in walks (54) and also ranks in NL in on-base percentage (5th, .409) and
OPS (11th, .907).

DUSTY BAKER

Nationals manager Dusty Baker was named the sixth field manager in Nationals history on
Nov. 3, 2015. A three-time National League Manager of the Year (1993, 1997, 2000), Baker
is the 17th-winningest manager in baseball history. Entering the season with a 1,671-1,504
career record, Baker is just the 17th manager in MLB history to win 1,700 games (1,711-1,529).
Bakers record slots him second in the win column among active managers behind only San
Franciscos Bruce Bochy (No. 16 all-time, 1,742 victories). Jim Leyland is No. 15 on the alltime list (1,769). Connie Mack holds the all-time MLB record for managerial victories with 3,731.

DATE IN NATIONALS HISTORY

JUNE 15 (4-6 on this date)

2005: With Washington clinging to 1-0 lead at Los Angeles, Chad Cordero loaded the bases in
the ninth with none out, and then amazingly stranded all three runners. Cordero retired Steve
Finley (strikeout), Bengie Molina (shallow fly ball to center field) and Dallas McPherson
(strikeout) to preserve the emotional win.
