elcome to your Winter edition o NRBM. With many opinion polls throughout Australia reporting that 5 out o 10 economists believe we are entering a period o strong economic growth and 5 out o 10 are braced or a more severe second

wave o fnancial crises, the only thing that’s certain is that these are uncertain times.

The budget Mr Swan handed down last month was a no rills aair ocussing on the long term aim o reducing national debt. Commentators are orecasting that any sweeteners or the general public are being kept back or closer to election time. As ar as business goes any benefts rom the reduction in company tax won’t actually kick in or another 3 years so I guess it’s a case o let’s just get on with what we do best, running our businesses.

This issue marks NRBM’s 3rd birthday and we’d like to say a big thank you to all our readers, columnists, advertisers and the team who make NRBM possible. We see it as vital or the continued success and growth o regional business to have a business publication which covers topics that impact on the dynamics o our business community o the Northern Rivers.

In this issue our Cover Story ocuses on Ballina, a town which is achieving growth even in hard times. A destination or both business and sea changers their orward thinking council has put in the inrastructure or growth or both business and community. Find out more about their recipe or success.

The Northern Rivers arm o Regional Development Australia is setting a task or locals, to submit ideas and visions or the uture o the region. They’re looking or innovative solutions to hot issues impacting on the environment, community and economy. There are $4000 in prizes, or ull details go to p18.

On a personal note I am in some very painul training to run a 10K event as part o the Gold Coast Marathon raising money or Heart Kids. This is a terrifc charity that supported a riend o mine whose son was born with a hole in the heart last year. I am looking or sponsors so i you would like to support this cause and make this ftness pain worthwhile please email me at: editor@nrbm.com.au.

Until next time…
