Furthermore, I appreciate how you incorporated composition into the class, and I have continued to compose independently as a result. Would you be able to write me a letter of recommendation for my applications? I have really enjoyed working with you in Counterpoint, and I know that having this letter will be a valuable part of my application. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you with this process. My resume is attached, along with templates and copies of my best work from your class. Thank ai T To: Otto riney@email com (Otto Riney) From: Subject: Interview Request ‘ou Email Dear Mr. Riney, Thank you for considering my application to the position of Engineering Technical Advisor at Conley Rose. While I am disappointed that my request for an interview was denied, I appreciate the time you spent to review my application and wish you the best. aa Job Description: The Dallas o of Conley Rose, P.C. is currently seeking individuals with a technical degree, preferably in chemical engineering, to assist with writing patent applications. The Technical Advisor will be responsible for preparing patent applications under patent attorney supervision, including: interviewing inventors, analyzing technical aspects of ‘hnicé inventions, drafting t descriptions of inventions, working with draftsman to develop effective drawing figures illustrating inventions, revising patent applications based on client and/or supervising attorney feedback, and generally becoming familiar with our clients” technologies. ualifications The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: Excellent English reading, writing, and verbal communication skills; *BS or higher degree in engineering; +A professional attitude and superior work ethie; *Ability to quickly learn and retain both technical information and legal instruction; *Ability to flesh-out technical concepts; Ability to work well as part of a team, February 2, 2016 Otto Riney Conley Rose, P.C. — Dallas Granite Park Three 5601 Granite Parkway, Suite 500 Plano, TX 75024-6608 Dear Mr. Riney, Having almost completed my degree in chemical engineering, | am eagerly looking for ways to apply the knowledge I have learned. Working at Conley Rose as an Engineering Technical Advisor would surely be an engaging way to use the principles learned in my classes. What especially stood out to me about this job opening was the flexibility of your company, being able to represent both large clients like American Airlines and individual inventors to protect and defend intellectual property rights. Helping inventors continue to do their pioneering work would be a very satisfying way to expand my understanding of math and science. Furthermore, the process of learning new technologies appeals to me as a way to stay curious about the world, and to keep my critical thinking skills sharp. I have immense respect for individuals with unique ideas, and I want to help protect original thought as much as I can, As the developer of an app to help oboists analyze and keep track of their reeds, I understand the joy of creation, and I can use this understanding to relate to inventors. For almost a year now, I have sold oboe reeds weekly to five obve students, building trust and learning more about client-business relationships. This experience has taught me how to gain clients and retain them, which is highly applicable to this job listing. Many of the courses I have taken have honed the skills demanded for this job. Unit Operations Lab, for example, where teams of four conduct experiments throughout the semester, further developed my ability to quickly learn different chemical engineering processes and to communicate my technical understanding both in writing and orally through presentations. In addition, I was able to learn more about how to work effectively as part of a team to solve problems and clarify my understanding of engineering concepts. Electives I have taken, including Applied Engineering Statistics and Biochemical Engineering, provide me with a wider base of engineering knowledge to draw on as I analyze new technologies. hope that I may look forward to meeting you in the context of an interview, where I would be delighted to further discuss my qualifications for this enriching opportunity. Sincerely, Signatur Pd) Summary This experiment is designed to test the effectiveness of a PRISM PA nitrogen membrane separator in counter-current and co-current flow of air at pressures between 45 and 105 psia and at flow rates between 3 and 38 SLPM. It was performed by Peter Folkins, Frank Nguyen, James Reynolds, and Ahmed Shihab in January 2016 at the University of Oklahoma. Context Nitrogen membrane separators are important as an efficient, cost-efiective, reliable way to generate onsite nitrogen from compressed air, which can then be used to replace oxygen ina variety of applications to reduce the possibility of combustion. Improving the productivity and enrichment of the nitrogen-rich flow would result in decreased costs, and allow for a wider application of nitrogen. Methods Air is introduced to a single membrane separation unit through the top. Depending on whether the system is oriented in co-current or counter-current flow, the permeate stream may leave from an outlet at the bottom (co-current) or from the side-top (counter-current), and the non-permeate stream will always exit through a separate outlet in the bottom. Each stream flows out of appropriate valves into respective oxygen content analyzers for data collecting. Oxygen concentrations of the permeate and non-permeate flows along with the flow rate of the non- permeate is then used to evaluate at different pressures the effects of flow rate on permeate oxygen content, non-permeate nitrogen content, productivity, enrichment ratio, and recovery in both co-current and counter-current flow. Results The productivity of both the counter and co-current flows increased with feed pressure. Both flow methods achieved greater levels of productivity with increasing feed flow rates. The counter-current flow achieved greater levels of productivity across every pressure level tested compared to the co-current stream with the same flow rate. The counter-current flow was more successful at separating the oxygen from the feed stream at each pressure and flow rate versus the co-current flow. Both flow methods exhibited an increase in enrichment as pressure increased but a decrease in enrichment ratios as the flow rate increase. The co-current feed yielded slightly higher enrichment ratios than the counter-current feed. The recovery levels of both the counter and co-current flows increased with pressure and decreased with feed flow rate, with greater recovery in the counter-current. * Productivity = total oxygen flow in the permeate + Enrichment ration = ratio of oxygen concentration in permeate to concentration in non-permeate + Recovery = fraction of oxygen in the feed that is recovered in the permeate Significance As a result of this experiment, we recommend operating all PRISM PA nitrogen membrane separators in counter-current flow at a pressure between 45-60 psi with a flow rate between 15-20 SLPM to generate the highest percentage of nitrogen in the non-permeate stream. Doing so will decrease costs associated with compressing air as well as increasing the amount of nitrogen available for use in fire suppression, prevention, and a variety of other applicati
