Pieces
King:
The King rules the land. When cornered,he will surrender quicker than a mouse in acheese factory. At all costs, the beginner mustprotect the King.
Queen:
The Queen has the real power, theKing just thinks he does. Unfortunately, theQueen is often required to lay down her life.Beginners beware… you will end up loving your Queen, and despising her opposite.
Bishop:
Initially, the Bishops flank the King andQueen. You never know when you many needreligious guidance, especially in the heat of battle.

Knight: The Knight, often called the ‘Horsey’by the beginner, is the Kings cavalry. Beingon horseback it is not always easy to movein a straight line, as a result the Knightmoves like a possessed madman.Rook: Rooks can be both a King’s bestdefense, or his greatest offense. These areoften called ‘Castles’ by the beginner player.Pawn: The lowly Pawns provide the King’sreal power. What they lack inmaneuverability, they gain in number. Givena chance, a Pawn is capable of taking on aQueen.
