Wayanad
Hear the thunder of a green silence

E
xperience a deafening silence. A silence so soothing that you will forget your pastand future, and begin to live in the present tense. Wayanad, the evergreen, charming hill district of Kerala, is home to many curious attractions and green wonders. Wayanad is one of the districts in Kerala that has been able to retain itspristine nature. Hidden away in the hills of this land are some of the oldest tribes,as yet untouched by civilization. Wayanad will enchant you with its pretty mistclothed hill stations, extensive spice plantations, lush forests and affluent culturaltraditions. And, the leading tourist centers of South India like Ooty, Mysore,Coorg, Kozhikode and Kannur are around this region. Comprising an area of 2,132sq. kilometers, Wayanad invites you, to an unpolluted abode.Come, see, and surrender to this wonder…

The most important thing that will stir your curiosity about the bygone era of  Wayanad may be the opinion of historians that organized human life existed incertain parts of this land, at least ten centuries before Christ. Relics and edictsfound in various parts of Wayanad speak volumes of a rich pre-historic era. Wayanad was ruled by the Rajas of the Veda tribe. After Tippu handed over theentire Malabar region to the British after the Sreerangapattanam truce, Wayanadsaw historic encounters between the British and Kerala Varma Pazhassi Rajah of Kottayam. Pazhassi Rajah waged a fierce war on the British with the help of Kurichiya tribals from the wilderness of Wayanad. In the end, on the brink of  becoming a prisoner of his enemies, he committed suicide, and became a tragichero in the history of Wayanad.
