The Sundanese tribe formed the majority of the original community in the area of West Java, Indonesia.Generally, the Sundanese community is known to practice the culture of communality with strong family values. These are due to the common cultural practice of communality, which is locally known as ‘guyub’ and‘rereongan’. ‘Guyub’ is a traditioanl Sundanese social practice of gathering around to socialize within thecommunity of an area. ‘Rereongan’ is the culture of sharing within the community that strengthen andcompliment the social practice of ‘guyub’. The common gathering activity that is being practice usually involvescreative activities such as producing arts and crafts, gardening and farming, fishing (balong) or simply by justhanging out together for recreational purposes or playing traditional games, and all these are usually being doneat a common open space of the village. However lately, these precious cultural practice of the Sundanese people seems to be left out and forgotten in thecurrent hectic and high density city life. The issues of urbanization that caused high density living, shortage of land to live in, as well as the problem of increasing jobbless rate due to shortage of working opportunitiescontributes to the existence of slum area in the city side of West Java, which our site, the area of Industri Dalamis. The area of Industri Dalam is located at the Developing District of Bojonegara, West Java, Indonesia. IndustriDalam is startegically located at the area of Bandung Main Station, as well as the station and terminal of Ciroyom. It can be easily accessed from its surounding area, which consist of industrial zones, trading andbusiness area and hotel. With the potential of being surrounded by these industrial and business zones, we seethat this potential shall be developed and included in the design startegy of the new dwelling area for IndustriDalam, thus benefiting and contributing to its surrounding. This strategy is hoped to increase the capacitybuilding of the dwellers as well as the natural resources locally available. In addition to that, the commonpractice of farming also leads us to include the concept of urban farming in our design strategy. The development of flats as solution for the wide myriad of problems that occurred to the site shall be addressedboth in terms of design solution, coupled with management strategies. We proposed three types of dwellingunits. Type 1, with the total area of 72 m2 shall be offered to the dwellers or end users that have the capital andwhom that shall ran the whole business of the creative industry. The operators and trainers of workshops fromthese creative industry development shall be offered with they Type 2 dwelling, which sized 45 m2. The smallesttype, being offered to the workers and production line community will be designed with the size of 36 m2.The planning of the flats of Industri Dalam is being based from the local tradition of the Sundanese village, whichgenerally consists of sequence of housing units (known as Imah), orientated towards the North-South orientation. This component is being configured to surround the open space (alun-alun) and a volleyball court that alsofunction as a public open space for communal and sporting activities. Situated at the middle part of the planningis a traditioanal Sundanese pond, known as Balong that is designed to be multi-functioned. It will act as retentionpond, pond for macrophytes – the main resource to produce handmade crafts as well as for water recreationpurposes. To encourage and support other communal activities, a public space is provided at the pilotis level, which haoused some eateries and other public ammenities and facilities, while at the podium level and fifth floorlevel is where the green open space is being located for the purpose of urban farming and community recreation.
