No classroom lessons were involved. Instead,a unique outdoor learning experience wasprovided. On 28 January 2010, RiversideSecondary School held its annual LearningJourney with the aim o enriching Riversidians’knowledge with the ve aspects o Total Deence,Singapore’s rich national heritage and culture. Avast number o places were oered such as thezoo, ood actories, Singapore Discovery Centre,Tiger Brewery, Singapore Flyer and many more.At the Marina Barrage, we understood our country’seorts towards environmental sustainability. At SingaporeDiscovery Centre, we were oered a bus tour around the area. It wasollowed with a trip to the Army Museum where we relived the past througha 3D reenactment o World War Two. The ood actories oered a completelydierent experience. We were treated to kuih kapit (love letters), kuih bahulu(egg pus), some red-coloured green bean-made Chinese kuih and nasi lemakwith its special sauce. We also saw how the ried spring rolls were made. Welearnt that two layers o ‘skins’ are needed to make the spring rolls. All in all,this year’s Learning Journey was a tremendous hit with the students.

Community involvement Programme (CiP)
This year, the Outdoor and Fitness Club distributed ood packs to the needy amilies inWoodlands as part o their CIP. The aim was to spread the Chinese New Year joy to thecommunity. The teachers raised unds by appealing to the sta in Riverside and the studentspacked daily ood staples into the git packs. Working alongside with Woodlands CC as part otheir Chinese New Year celebrations, the students helped to distribute the git packs and riceto the needy amilies on 6 February 2010. The Guest o Honour or the event was Ms EllenLee, the MP or Sembawang GRC. Although the students were tired ater the event, mostwere satised and happy that they were able to serve the community.Riverside Secondary School also raised unds or the needy amilies through the MILK FUNDdonation drive. NE Champs distributed donation tins to the classes and the class chairpersonscollected donations rom their classmates.
