all the universe conspires

in helping you to achieve it”

Many of you must be thinking this a dialogue by SRK in OSO translated to

English! But instead these are great words by one of the most popular
authors our generation got to explore the works of. I am talking about source
of optimism for many, The Brazilian author, Paulo Coelho.

About THE PERSONNEL
Beginning the very first issue of THE PERSONNEL with words of Paulo Coelho to me is like
beginning a new life with thoughts of God. THE PERSONNEL or The PERennial Speaker
ONline NewsLetter is my medium of elaborative description of my thoughts with an enhanced
reading environment.
The newsletter aims at covering any aspect of life worth giving a thought to according to me.
Being very personal choice of mine, it will mainly focus on my findings on the topics I favor.
Also, the newsletter would have the complementary features that most newsletters have. There
will be a column for comments and views of the readers as well.
Though the newsletter aims to begin with as little as 5 readers, I hope it can extend to double
digits some day!
I would like to thank every reader as there are a very few of those.
Being humans, we have an opinion on anything to everything. With success to the Orkut
community, My Opinion, this fact has been justified. Whatever are your thoughts about this
newsletter, do share with me by writing in to: my.opinion@individuality.in. I am open to
criticism as well. Each criticizing comment is a ladder to achieve perfectness!

About Issue # 1
Issue # 1 talks about “TECHNOLOGY TRENDSETTERS”. This issue talks about the Frontier
Technologies that can be marked as Trendsetters for those who think Technology should be used
for supporting Humanity. It is not the advanced level of technology that can ensure a future high-
tech and comfortable for our race, but the relevance of the development front. An X-47 “Flying
Wing” model capable of carrying enough nukes to destroy the world thrice with no need of
landing for days or months is not what a human seeks for. We need the same X-47 to stay air-
borne for days to study live atmospheric conditions so if there is a possibility of wind turbulence
strong enough to cause a storm, it knows before its too late to save human lives. Do we really
need an advanced micro sized live feed camera that is as big as a dot for spying purpose? Rather
I would prefer an artificial visual mechanism to give vision to a human who otherwise could not
see.
Technology has all the power that man can ever bebestowed with. It is truly a matter of choice if
that power is used with responsibility or to walk the path that leads to the end.

Social Service For Free?
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you get to hear the phrase “Social
Service”?
Last semester if you had asked me, I would have had responded with some of this -> “I
am sorry?” Uh well, most people would respond to this as donations, NGOs, free
services, etc. But I truly feel that times are changing! At least I have a completely new
outlook on social service.

Consider this, you do something for a social cause, then you get rewarded for the same!
What I am talking about has nothing to do with donations and free stuff. Being an
engineer I realized that in my field of expertise there is a huge demand of softwares for
many groups of people. For these people things do not work out as good as for the
“NORMAL” people.

Before coming to my exact and personal experience, I would like to defend my thoughts
in advance so as to make it easier for me to prove the worth of my content. Just the
name of this movie will tell the whole story what this article talks about. “TAARE
ZAMEEN PAR”, directed and produced by Aamir Khan is a perfect example of
commercialization of a social thought. The way Aamir Khan, one of the greatest actor
and one of the most inspirational mind in Bollywood, presented his concern for the
Dyslexic children, it is a clear indication that if you need to do good for some one, it is
not necessary to go the monetary way. Whatever be the field we work in, there is a group
of people who may need our support in one way or the other. The contribution can come
through your work and it may not be for free after all!

Now coming to my experience as an engineering student, the word “SOCIAL SERVICE”

rings the bells in the hearts of examiner once you begin presenting your work. I realized,
it was not the difficulty level that justified my project’s worth as a final year project, it
was rather the relevance! Innovation and uniqueness were the two qualities that
“AUDIO CAPTCHA” has. Once you add a social service factor to it by adding the phrase
“to aid VISUALLY IMPAIRED”, it gives you a winning combination even before the
demonstration or explanation of the project begins. If you really feel I am boasting about
it, I think my achievements with just this topic will inspire you to go ahead with a
similar project in near future if you can.

1. 2nd Prize at Technical Poster Presentation, National Student Symposium, IEEE

students’ branch, Fervour 2008, Bhartiya VidyaPeeth College of Engineering.
2. Fantastic marks in my own institute for evaluation as final year project.
3. 3rd Prize at University Final Year Project Presentation among IT department, Guru
Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.
4. Appreciation Letter from HOD, CSE/IT Department, Maharaja Agrasen Institute of
Technology.
ISSUE: MY001#073107#060108
I think this evidence is enough to relate the topic with its success rate.

*Kindly note, this article in no ways of interpretations means that you

should find such a topic and lure the examiners for prizes, marks and
appreciation. This is to encourage your thinking towards people who are
mostly forgotten in the society just because they are thought to be
INCAPABLE and INCOMPETENT comparing with so called NORMAL
people. This kind of view can only be presented by people who have a very
narrow minded approach. But this is the ultimate truth of our society.

The point I wish to make is that in a fast and competitive world, if you give a little
thought to the needy, trust me there is still room for such thoughts in educational as
well as in commercial field. Medicinal R&D is another very good example of the same.
The drug for cure of aids is a very noble cause. Hence, the companies going forth to
achieve this mission worldwide have received tax holidays and redemptions. Ultimately
when the drug is out, it will be sold with profitability factor. So I believe time is back
when you need not SACRIFICE your life to serve someone. You can very well do that
while getting handsome returns and a lot of appreciation.

** I will be writing more about the details of my project very soon.

What do you think?

Rajan Gupta says…

social srvice is being talked about...

i would say dat its a rather superficial term used by not so gud ppl of da society...
watever u think is ryt, is da work u shud go for.. if it benefits others, it will
automatically be termed as social service.. if its only of ur self interst, den go
ahead wid it cuz u r living ur own life....

n if a person is gud at heart, everythin he does becomes a social service...

Bionic Eye to Restore Vision
Sources: BBC News- Health, Electronic For You.

The new technology comprises of an external camera that is to be worn on a pair of dark glasses.
A chip is implanted on the back of the eye on the retina. The silicon and platinum chip receives
the video feed through radio signals. This information then goes onto the optic nerve. The optic
nerve leads it to the brain that provides the vision.
The retinal implant contains tiny electrodes. If you stimulate a single electrode, the person
will see a single dot of light. The clarity though is far from perfect, but training an individual
can produce results that are massive comparing complete blindness stage. Training would
help in interpretation of blurry images.

Efforts are being made to develop a camera that can be installed within the eye. Such a
camera should also move as a real eye should at the person’s will.

Software to Avoid Traffic Jams

Sources: Electronics for You, enews20.

Microsoft announced its plan to introduce a service for driving directions that would help users
stay away from traffic jams. The new web-based service’s software technology is called
Clearflow and it has been developed by an artificial-intelligence research group for the past five
years.
The Clearflow system will be made available, for free, on the company’s Live.com website. It
will cover 72 cities in the United States, totaling some 60 million road segments.

A release date hasn’t been announced yet but once the software arrives, drivers will receive the
best possible routes in order for them to reach their destinations, as Clearflow takes into account
details such as current weather, sporting events and the time of day. Further details regarding the
way the service will be implemented onto personal navigation systems are to be announced later
on.
Though initially for the United States, the technology may be a revolution around the globe as
well once introduced. The major concern is to understand the whole city to give the best traffic
jam avoidance strategy. In heavily crowded and unplanned city structures, it would be a major
challenge to implement the technology.

Organization Alert: NASA
Would you like to work for NASA?
Well, the answer to this question would be a 100% positive one. So what is it that makes it so? I
believe the unlimited budgeting and the role of NASA in developing frontier space technology is
the reason. Everyone would like to be a part of the great organization. If anyone of us could give
even a meager contribution to any of the NASA projects, it would be a great pleasure. Most of us
would even work for free for them!
Let us first discuss what NASA is all about! NASA's Mission is to pioneer the future in space
exploration, scientific discovery, and aeronautics research. NASA was primarily formed to
aid USA in space race against the Soviet Union. It was so believed that whoever won the space
race to moon would be the ultimate winner of the cold war as well. Till the Apollo 11 launch,
NASA was far behind Soviet Union in terms of space technology. But once they claimed the
moon, Soviet Union, supposedly planning to set up a missile base station on moon, backed out of
the space race.

Since that day, NASA has claimed to represent not just the USA, but whole humanity. It has
claimed to solely have worked on developing technologies that would help humanity in science
and technology front. But is it a reality?

Have you heard of the conspiracy theory?

According to conspiracy theory, there are a lot of inconsistencies in NASA’s claim to have
reached the moon. Not just the Apollo 11, but all 6 scheduled landings are said to be the
century’s biggest hoax! These are objections have not been clarified by NASA till date.

Also, NASA has been said to serve the US military at all times. Only very few resources are put
in research for better space findings. The X-series flight systems are more of military projects.
Most of the satellites sent to space have been claimed to be spy satellites rather than telescopes
serving the SETI program.

Let us check out the budget of NASA. The budget for 2007 estimates to $16,285.0 million. The
budget for 2008 stands at a hike of 6.3%, that is, $17,309.4 million.

More information:
Space Shuttles are to be retired by 2010. Space shuttles will be replaced by an alternate vehicle.
The systems and technology for the same are being developed. The possibility of a “FLYING
WING MODEL” being used as the next generation space exploration vehicle is highest.

You can obtain in detail budget from the official NASA website, www.nasa.gov, this file also
includes the mission details of previous year.

NASA is celebrating year of astronomy next year as Kepler gave his laws of planetary motion
400 years ago. To promote the same, NASA is involving the public in its projects. The first one is
“SEND YOUR NAME TO MOON” in LRO set to launch later this year. The next one is the

KEPLER mission set to launch next year in which a DVD having messages from the public is to
be sent.
