ALL THE STARS WERE OUT
The Nationals sent a team record (2005-present) five players to Major League Baseballs AllStar Game, held on Tuesday night at Petco Park in San Diego:
Nationals 2B Daniel Murphy led the National League squad with two hits, the only NL
player to post a multi-hit game (2-for-3) in the ALs victory...Murphy is the first player in
Nationals history to tally two hits in the All-Star Game.
RF Bryce Harper started in the NL outfield for the third time in his career, his fourth career
All-Star selection, by garnering 2,865,095 fan votes -- the highest vote total among all NL
outfielders...Harper went 1-for-2 with a double off TEX LHP Cole Hamels.
In the first All-Star game of C Wilson Ramoss MLB career, he caught three innings and
went 0-for-1 at the plate...Ramos currently leads all qualified Major League catchers in batting average (.331), on-base percentage (.382), slugging percentage (.531), and RBI (48),
and ranks tied for third in home runs (13).
RHP Max Scherzer tossed a dominant inning, touching 99 mph with his fastball in the
Midsummer showcase...Scherzer faced KCRs Eric Hosmer (groundout), NYYs Carlos
Beltran (fly out), BALs Matt Wieters (strikeout).
RHP Stephen Strasburg, a San Diego native, enjoyed the second All-Star experience of
his career (also 2012), but he did not pitch.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT
Nationals All-Star 2B Daniel Murphy is making quite a case for the best free agent signing
of the offseason as he enters the second half leading the Major Leagues with a .348 batting
average...According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Murphy is just the second player in the last
50 seasons to lead the Major Leagues in batting average at the All-Star break in his first year
with a new team...Murphy joins former Nationals catcher Ivan Pudge Rodriguez, who hit
.369 and led MLB at the break in 2004 with the Detroit Tigers (after leaving the Marlins as a
free agent).
In addition to batting average, Murphy also leads all National League second basemen in
doubles (25), home runs (17), RBI (66), and slugging percentage (.598).

Nationals manager Dusty Baker was named the sixth field manager in Nationals history on
Nov. 3, 2015. A three-time National League Manager of the Year (1993, 1997, 2000), Baker
is the 17th-winningest manager in baseball history. Entering the season with a 1,671-1,504
career record, Baker is just the 17th manager in MLB history to win 1,700 games (1,727-1,540).
Bakers record slots him second in the win column among active managers behind only San
