BaroqueisanartstylethatdevelopedinapproximatelytheXVIIandXVIIcentury.Itisessentiallycharacterizedbyirregularityandcomplexity.InCatholicEurope,thechurchlookedforanart(architecture,paintingandsculpture)toserveaspropagandaanddefenseoftheirreligiousprinciples.Thisiswhytheresultingworksaresolavish,extravagant,fussyandoverelaborate.Thisstyleemergedasanaestheticresponsetoreligious,politicalandeconomiccircumstancesof thisperiodoftime.
