This PhD thesis is on providing increased flexibility to the distribution network operator by the application of a power electronics device: a multi back-to-back converter. The main benefit of the application of such a device is the postponement or prevention of network reinforcements by allowing increased loading and increased generation connection capacity. The developed controls and detection methods were experimentally verfied in a laboratory-scale set-up.
