Southern Arts Society – Tues. June 1

Terri Melton will demonstrate a T-Shirt paintingproject that she learned at Spring Maid. Bringyour own T-Shirt and SASI will supply the paint.Any color and even old t-shirts will gain a newlife. Bring a t-shirt or two and a friend.

Cindy Hovis is bringing refreshments andBernice will be bringing iced tea.

SASi meets the first Tuesday each month.

Social Time 6:30 Program 7:00Visitors are Welcome!SASi summer meetings will be "OpenWorkshop" on Tuesday July 6th andTuesday August 3rd.

Bring new or unfinishedart projects to work on while visiting with fellowartists.

Bring your images and thetechnical information for them to our meeting fordiscussion. TIPS: use a tripod, use the bestlight… early morning or evenings if outside.

The Shutter Light Group meets the second Tuesday each month.

PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

Southern Arts Society and the ShutterLightGroup are having their first photographycompetition with cash awards totaling $400.Entries will be

accepted Sat. June 12, 11am-3pm

. A complete prospectus is available onlineand at the Depot. Judge will be Kristy McSwain,a Cleveland Co. native and owner of IntimateVisions by Kristy Photography based in KingsMountain. Kristy is a graduate of Catawba ValleyCommunity College in Hickory, NC with anAssociate's Degree in Photographic Technology.

Awards will be presented at a publicreception on June 20

Exhibit runs June 15

through July 30.

CHILDREN’S ART WORKSHOP

The Annual Children’s Art Workshop will be theweek of August 9th thru August 13. Time is from9:00am until 11:30 am. Cost is $25 per child forages entering 1st grade thru 6th grade. Snack isincluded. A public reception for our young artistswill be Saturday, August 14th from 1 until 2:30pm.Class size is limited to 20 children. Call the Depotto register at 704-739-5585.

OIL PAINTING WORKSHOP

Southern Arts Societyand the Gaston CountyArt Guild will sponsor anintermediate oil paintingworkshop with artist

onSaturday, July 17,10am – 4pm in KMat the depot.

Cost $20 and is for Membersonly.

Be prepared to pay up your dues (eithergroup) if you are behind. Call to register at 704-739-5585. Bring a bag lunch, drinks provided.

Supplies to Bring:

photos to work from if youhave one, oils (or acrylics if you prefer), odorlessturp and mediums, bristle brushes, palette knives,table or floor easel, at least 3 prepared surfaces(no larger than 11x14). James will demo andshow us how to use a photo as a jumping off placeto begin painting. More details on the website.James Norman is an award-winning 35-yearveteran oil painter and teacher. His bold use of color and wide use of subject matter has made hiswork appealing to collectors all over the world.

will be showingat the Jeanne Rauch Gallery at Gaston College May4 - June 25th, 2010. Brenda has added some newpaintings to her exhibit which was previously atthe Kings Mountain Art Center.
