Dear

Students,

Parents,

and

Staff:

The

purpose

of

this

letter

is

to

give

you

an

update

on

the

school’s

response

to

the

bomb

threat

message

that

was

received

on

Wednesday,

May

26,

2010.

First

of

all,

again

I

commend

our

students,

staff,

Wootton

Boosters,

and

emergency

personnel

for

their

resilience

and

cooperation

in

how

they

responded

to

the

situation.

As

you

may

be

aware,

twenty
four

students

were

treated

on
site

by

emergency

medical

technicians

for

various

heat

related

illnesses.

All

twenty
four

students

were

released

with

no

additional

complications.

There

were

no

students

transported

to

the

hospital.

Additionally,

as

a

precaution

and

for

assistance,

students

with

existing

medical

needs

were

directed

to

the

front

of

the

building

near

the

emergency

medical

team

that

was

on
site.

The

safety

and

security

of

students

and

staff

is

always

my

number

one

priority.

Some

persons

may

question

why

we

did

not

go

to

Wootton’s

auditorium

to

hold

the

students.

Our

evacuation

plan

provides

for

us

to

secure

shelter

at

Wootton

High

School.

The

emergency

officials

informed

me

that

we

would

most

likely

be

able

to

return

to

the

building

within

30

to

45

minutes.

Therefore,

it

was

not

safe

to

walk

1300

students

and

staff

to

Wootton

and

then

immediately

have

to

turn

around

and

return

to

our

building.

Unfortunately

the

determination

that

it

was

safe

to

return

to

the

building

took

longer

than

expected.

During

the

evacuation

period

we

continued

to

monitor

our

students’

well

being

and

provide

them

assistance

as

needed.

I

will

inform

you

of

appropriate

information

regarding

the

continuing

investigation

of

the

bomb

threat

as

it

becomes

available.

Additionally,

I

am

re
printing

the

connect
ed

message

sent

yesterday,

on

the

back

of

this

letter.

Again,

I

want

to

assure

you

that

we

are

doing

everything

we

can

do

to

ensure

a

safe

learning

environment.

Please

call

me

if

you

have

any

questions.

Thank

you

for

your

continued

support.

Sincerely,

Dr.
