Dear Friend,
Hello again from everyone at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Church
in Torrington, CT. I wish every father who reads this newsletter a very
happy Father’s Day! My Bible still says we are commanded by God to honor our father
and mother. There is something wonderful about the nature of God because He puts
within our hearts His laws and commandments. We live and believe what He said from
a heart of gratitude, not ‘because it’s commanded and we better do it or else!’ But a
deep respect and honor comes into your heart for your parents so that all you see is the
good and realize some of the sacrifices they made over the years to bring you to where
you are today. At least, that’s been my experience. God’s ways are becoming my ways
and His outlooks are becoming my outlooks!
There is a beautiful verse of Scripture that says, “Remember the days of old,
consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy
elders and they will tell thee” (Deuteronomy 32:7). Our world is being programmed
to not listen to our elders anymore. We are convinced that our fathers are too old-
fashioned to understand this present generation. But I want you to know that despite
advances in technology humanity still needs fathers who know how to pray and steer
and guide their families in the right paths.
All throughout the Bible there is a call to return to the old paths wherein is the
way of righteousness. We are living in a marred generation, a generation that has
departed from the right way. But there is still hope in God! Jeremiah 18: 3 & 4 says,
“Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the
wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter:
so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.”
Sometimes things happen when the vessel is being formed. Cracks appear, spiritual
deformities show up, things that aren’t quite right are revealed after a while, but the
potter doesn’t throw away the clay: he takes the clay and begins anew! The Bible tells
us we are the clay and the Lord is the potter. He doesn’t cast you away just because
there is a problem or some sin you are having difficulty with. Is unbelief or doubts
plaguing your mind? Are fears controlling your life? Maybe you don’t go to church
because you haven’t gone for so long you’re afraid the roof will cave in! Or maybe you
aren’t sure if the Lord will accept you because of the things you’ve done or neglected to
do. Is that you? Are you marred some how? Do you have a flaw or a deficiency in some
area of your life? Let Him take you again and make you over anew. Jesus said, “All that
the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise
cast out (John 6:37). See? Jesus said He would not cast you out from His presence if
you come to Him! But we have to come to Him. Don’t let pride keep you from Him. I
remember reading of the days of old when people came to the Lord with their sins and
burdens and unbelief and He reached out and saved them. I have asked the elders in the
church world who believe that Jesus died and rose again from the dead so we could
have life. I have listened and sat at their feet and heard that He came to give us life:
abundant life. I have seen the grace and mercy of God at work in those who may have
tripped up along the way (like all people do at some point!) and have seen them not only
restored to right standing with God but go on to lead productive and exciting lives,
serving the Lord with a faith that goes beyond human understanding. There is victory in
Jesus! Why sit around going nowhere? Why haven’t you allowed the Lord to pick you
up and receive you into His kingdom? Come on: you can do it! You can come to Him!
He won’t cast you out! Are others influencing you to not move towards Him? Moses
experienced that. The Lord told Moses one time that He wished the people had a heart
to serve Him and follow Him, and keep His Word, and then He said, “But as for thee,
stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee…” (Deuteronomy 5:31). No
matter what others do God said, “But as for thee…” My mother used to ask me “If
your friends jumped off a cliff would you jump, too?” Obviously not! So what do I do?
I will stand by the Lord and He will speak to me! He will lead me and guide me! He
will reveal His presence to me! He will make known His love and mercy to me and my
family and bring us through every trial and struggle and he will never allow us to be
defeated because he has promised us abundant life, not just existence! Come to Him
without delay for He is calling you now!
