May Kipfer Update
What we’ve been up to
We haven’t had any visitors in the last month or adoptive
couples coming to Addis Ababa but we have had the oppor-
tunity to get to know some nationals and foreigners living
in Addis Ababa. We have been attending a Sunday school
at our church and have gotten to know some Ethiopians
around our age. One of them was involved in a small group
Bible study and invited us to join. So, we’ve started attend-
ing that every Wednesday evening and it has been a real
blessing. We’ve gotten to know other couples from five
different countries who are in Addis Ababa for various rea-
sons. In addition, I have started attending a women’s Bible
study on Saturdays.
All of these opportunities that have opened up have
provided us with such encouragement and seem to be ven-
ues for making some friendships. We really miss our family
and friendships back home, many of which have been built
over years and through many experiences. Those can’t be
replaced, but we’re encouraged that God is providing for
that need to be connected, to know and be known.

Counseling & Resource Center
One rainy Saturday afternoon this
month we met at the site of the
Counseling & Resource Center for a
prayer dedication. Some of the staff
from our partner organization,
Women at Risk along with our staff
met together for this event. Wonde,
the head counselor at Women at
Risk, shared Scripture with us and
led us in some Ethiopian praise
songs. Then, we dispersed to pray in
each room of the center, and around
the property to ask God to be present
in all the work that will be done and
that lives would be changed for His
glory. It was an experience that will
not soon be forgotten. We were
blessed to be a part of it and to experience God in new
ways alongside our Ethiopian brothers and sisters.
Since then, we’ve started buying furniture and looking for
applicants to fill the positions of Childcare worker and So-
cial Worker. We hope to have the basics purchased and
staff on board by the middle of June so we can start recruit-
ing women to come with their children.

Praises and Prayers
• Praise God for a peaceful election in Ethiopia.
• Praise God for the partnership he has allowed us to form
with “Women at Risk” that will allow us to begin work
before our NGO status is official.
• Continue to pray for the many preparations for the Coun-
seling & Resource center including staffing.
• Pray for the process by which we will be recruiting the
women for the Center and for the opening day that will
occur this month.
