Live Your Dream”
Editor: Ellen Vartan
The weather was fabulous, the water smooth as glass and the view of San Fran-cisco from Treasure Island just beautiful.
Organized by Charlie & Karen Agnew, eight boats made the trip:“Grand Cru”: Ken & Naidene Graham“Omega”: Bob & Joyce Craven“Strange Trip”: Steve & Ellen Vartan“Betty D”: Bob & Joy Magoon“Starship”: Kurt & Dominique Stahr “Dancing Wolf”: Larry & Linda Wolfe“Lady Di”: Scott Brown“C’King Fun”: Charlie & Karen AgnewNorm and Else Madsen drove down onFriday for dinner. Bill Kisliuk and ElizabethFrater joined us at the club on Saturday.Treasure Island Yacht Club is an all-volunteer club similar to ours except that theystill don’t have running water after all theseyears. However, members still produce somegreat dinners while hosting yacht clubs from allaround the Bay. They are a very friendly andhospitable group and we urged them to visit usin Napa.An after-dinner presentation by Carolyn Tre-anor of Sunflower Circle Productions high-lighted the legend of world-class adventurer Richard Halliburton and the fated voyage of the Sea Dragon, a Chinese junk, in 1939. Sincethe TI world’s fair was its destination, their goal is to recreate the Sea Dragon’s voyage for geographic educational purposes.
Weekend at Treasure Island

all know that our liquor li-cense, first issued by the Alcohol and Bev-erage Control board in 1992, is a very im-portant license. Without it we’d just bethirsty and not nearly as funny!Recently there have been some changesin the rules and we absolutely must followthe rules or risk the loss or suspension of our license. The reason that I bring this up is that onour cruise to Treasure Island, for OpeningDay on the Bay, TIYC was adamant thatname tags be worn and that non-membersmust sign in. The ABC is making roundsof private clubs and the Marin Yacht Clubhas already been cited for serving guestswithout name tags. Please be responsible, wear your name tag and if you see some-one without one, take charge and helpenforce the rule. Your guests must wear anametag as well as family members. If youbring in wine, be sure to check with thebartender and pay the required corkage. On the same subject, last weekend Ro-tary had a fundraiser, Cycle for Sight, andneeded volunteer wine servers. Well, Napanow has another new rule. To serve wineas a volunteer you must attend a two-hourclass “Responsible Beverage Server”. Al-though I went reluctantly, I walked awaywith new respect and knowledge. We cansay “no” and sometimes being the nice guyisn’t possible. I had to turn away a youngcouple that didn’t have wristbands. Whenthey pushed the issue, I still refused thembecause one citation could jeopardize fu-ture events and also get me in trouble. Iurge all NVYC bartenders to sign up forthis class.

he biggest things hap-pening at the Club arethe improvements being made inthe galley and restrooms underthe direction of Building andGrounds Chairs Chris Fultz andAl Mueller with assistance fromBob Weeks. These projectswould not be possible withoutdonated time and energy frommany of our members. In the galley, the hood over therange has been ordered. On thedocks, the power has been up-graded so that everything ismuch safer and will keep thosecircuit breakers from popping. On the restroom front, demoli-tion is done, Chris had a storagecontainer delivered to store all of the building materials and twotemporary comfort stations re-place our missing restrooms. Please see page 4 for some pho-tos.Fleet Captain Bob Magoon hasa loaded cruise schedule for usthe remainder of the cruisingseason.
