This is a follow up to ‘communications we sent to you on July 29" and August 26". The first was an explanation of the important changes we are putting in place to improve our services and systems for children and youth across our state. The second was more specifically focused on the effects of these changes on your students. Both are attached for your reference. As indicated in our August 26” communication, we are committed to offering services that are proven to be highly effective. We have shared with you the low success rate of our traditional day treatment programs. These programs are being replaced by more current, evidence based services. Friday, September 23, 2016 will be the last day referrals for day treatment will be accepted. All children currently in day treatment services will be transitioned from this service by December 31, 2016. We are working with treatment providers to ensure alternative behavioral health services will be available to safely and adequately treat and manage a child’s behavioral health needs. Local schools will be participants in the team decision making that determines appropriate services. PBH will continue to offer Partial Hospitalization, which is a day time service, for youth with short-term acute behavioral health needs. We will continue to provide an array of services, of varying intensity, for children/youth who are Medicaid or uninsured and whose behavioral health challenges are severe. The ICT process will also remain available for districts. We will work with our providers and school personnel to support the students and the staff to enable children and youth to succeed within your district settings. Our restructure enables us to individualize services to meet the unique needs of the child within a specific setting, and we are open to creative solutions. PBH is happy to meet with district representatives to discuss the changes we are making. We value our partnership with the schools and we look forward to our future collaboration. Our Deputy Director, Julie Leusner, and | are available to you via state email. You can also call or text me at: 302-379-0876, We are hosting a series of community meetings over the next few months to discuss changes within the Division, including the changes to day treatment services. The New Castle meeting was held on September 8"; we were pleased to have a representative from Christina School District. We welcome individuals from any location to participate in the Kent and Sussex County meetings.
