Summertime, a time to relax in theshade or at the beach, to putter aroundin the garden or the golf course, enjoya picnic or some outdoor barbecue, or
plan an adventure. It’s a great timefor reading, for all ages, and you’ll
find all the reading you want at theLibrary. The Library is on its summer hours during the months of June, Julyand August. That means the Librarycloses at 1:00 pm on Saturday rather than the usual 3:00 pm, but all theusual library services are available sixdays a week along with some that areonly available during the summer. This year the Library once again hasexciting summer reading programsfor children, young adults and adults.Look for more information on our summer reading programs in thisnewsletter. For children, summer reading is anessential bridge in retaining their skills over the long summer vacation.
It’s simple and enjoyable, and it is
proven to be the single most effective
way to promote your child’s educa-tional development. It’s important
for young adults as well, and a great
antidote for the “I don’t know what todo” blues.
And for adults, summer reading is perfect for relaxing and catching up onall those books you meant to read lastwinter. Summer is also time for out-
door projects and activities. You’ll
find books on home improvement, gardening, auto repair and outdoor grilling. Plan a trip or keep closer to
home with a “staycation.” We have
free passes to the Vermont state parksand historic sites, VINS, the NatureMuseum in Grafton and the AmericanPrecision Museum in Windsor. TheLibrary is full of bargains whilemoney is tight.
Of course, the Library isn’t just for
reading. Enjoy free Internet access on
the Library’s public access computers,
or bring your own laptop and log in to
our WiFi network. There’s music and
videos, and audio books on tape, CD,
“Playaway” and mp3 formats. There’s
Story Time and Discovery Hour pro-
grams for the kids, “Camp Half
-
Blood” for Young Adults and a Fam-
ily Concert for all ages. Or just comein out of the summer heat and relax inthe cool, quiet comfort of the Library.
There’s something for everyone at
your Library this summer. Stop in andcheck it out.

FOSTL Annual Meeting

The Flinn Room was filled tocapacity. After a brief businessmeeting to approve the $10,900 budget for this year and elections,Janet Tessier, outgoing president, introduced David Morine, author of
Two Coots in a Canoe.
As was the
case with last year’s speaker, HenryHomeyer, David’s first remarks were
how beautiful the room was.Morine thoroughly entertained uswith excerpts from his book. He andhis college friend Ramsey Peard, both retired, spent a month paddlingdown the Connecticut River fromCaanan to the Long Island Sound,
relying on “the kindness of strangers” for dinner, beds and
