INTRODUCTION
This brochure is designed to provide you with complete information
on how to use the RTD Olympic Bus Service to reach most major
venues of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
The service is provided by the Southern California Rapid Transit
District (RTD), the third largest transit system in the nation. RTD
regularly operates a fleet of 2,200 buses to provide service throughout Los Angeles County and parts of four surrounding counties.
During the Olympics,July 28 -August 12,1984, the RTD will add
550 buses and new bus routes to operate direct service to most
major venues. This will provide you with fast, convenient and reliable
service for travelling to Olympic sporting events. By riding RTD, you
can reach events in less time and avoid the problems and high cost
of parking at venues.
Most buses in the RTD Olympic fleet are of advance design,
with air conditioning and accessible features for disabled riders.
Whenever possible they will travel on street lanes especially designated as preferential for buses to provide quick and direct service
to venue entrances.
All RTD Olympic bus lines are numbered in the 700 series,
beginning with 710 and ending at 795. One-way fares are $2, $4, or
$6, depending on the type of service and travel distance. RTD
Olympic tokens, tickets or the RTD Olympic Service Gold Pass must
be used to pay a fare. No cash will be accepted.
All RTD Olympic Service Buses can be easily identified by a
colorful Olympic emblem mounted on the front and rear of each
bus. The emblem will display the official Star-in-Motion and the five
interlocking rings of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

TYPES OF OLYMPIC SERVICE

RTD will operate three types of bus service to Olympic venues. The
following is a brief description of each type of service:

PARK/RIDE
Advance reservations requiredjJr guaranteed seating. RTD will
operate Park/Ride service from seven locations in the Los Angeles area
to eight Olympic venues. This service operates non-stop from the
Park/Ride site to the entrance of the venues. Each Park/Ride site has
parking available for automobiles. The service will be round trip
between the Park/Ride lot and the Olympic venue.

EXPRESS SERVICE
RTD will operate round trip, non-stop express bus service to six
Olympic venues from a special RTD Olympic Bus'lerminal in
downtown Los Angeles at 1st and Spring Sts.

SHUTTLE SERVICE
RTD will operate seven different round trip Olympic Bus Shuttles.
Some shuttle lines will make stops along their routes, usually a
distance of only a few miles.

ACCESSIBLE SERVICE

RTD Accessible Buses provide automatic lift service to

persons in wheelchairs. Persons in 'wheelchairs who wish to
use an accessible bus for Olympic Park/Ride Service may
request one when making their advance reservations.
Accessible buses also will be interspersed among the RTD fleet
operating on Olympic Shuttle and Express Service. Persons wishing
to use accessible buses are asked to check with RTD Field Personnel
at boarding sites for the next available accessible bus.

RTD OLYMPIC BUS FARES

RTD Olympic bus fares are as follows:
Shuttle Service - $2 one way
Express Service - $4 and $6 one way
Park/ Ride Service - $6 one way
Park/Ride service requires advance reservations for guaranteed
seating. Fares are payable by RTD 1984 Olympic tokens, tickets or the
$10 a day RTD Olympic Service Gold Pass. No cash fares will be
accepted.

RTD GOLD PASS

The RTD Olympic Service Gold Pass is available from Ticketron
when making advance reservations for the Park/Ride Service. It
is priced at $IO-a-day, per person, and offers a savings of $2 on a
$12 round trip fare.
[t is also available for purchase at all RTD Customer Service
Centers, including the special RTD Olympic Center at First and
Spring Sts., in downtown Los Angeles.
At $IO-a-day the RTD Gold Pass can be used all day to board
RTD Olympic Shuttle Service and Express Service, as well as any
RTD bus in regular service. It provides unlimited use on any RTD
bus for one day. When purchased at an RTD office, the Pass can be
used on Park/ Ride service on a standby basis only, since advance
reservations are taken only by Ticketron.

RTD DOWNmWN OLYMPIC

CUSmMER SERVICE CENTER
On July 8, 1984, RTD opens its Downtown Olympic Customer Service
Center at the intersection of First and Spring Sts. Hours of operation
between July 8-July 21 are 7 a.m. -7 p.m. seven days a week. From
July 22 -August 12, hours are from 5 a.m. -10 p.m. seven days a week.

RTD CUSmMER SERVICE CENTERS

County. Each office provides a full range of pass and ticket services,
and offers free brochures, and direct line phone service to obtain
RTD information. RTD Customer Service Centers, locations and
hours of operation are Listed on back cover. On July 22 -August 12,
office hours and days of operation will be extended.

PARK/RIDE RESERVATIONS ORDER FORM

Reservations will be offered on all RTD Olympic Park/Ride lines,
but not on the other Olympic bus service. Persons with reservations will be guaranteed a seat on a bus during a specific
20-minute period from the Park/Ride site. Reservations will
not be accepted on buses returning to the Park/Ride lots to allow
patrons more flexibility in departing. Bus service will continue

until two hours after the completion of an event or until all

passengers are accommodated.
Reservations can be made by mail, telephone, or in person
through Ticketron. To make your reservation determine which
Park/Ride lot is most convenient for you to use and the time you
wish to travel.
