The 24-inch diameter natural gas pipeline would be laid on the floor of sea underwater along the 94-mile route from Offshore YadanaNatural Gas Region to Daw Nyein Village of Pyapon District. TL Geohydrographic Company of Malaysia and Myanmar citizen ownedSMART Technical Services jointly conducted the pipeline route survey from 17- 3-2009 to 5-5-2009. The engineers and skilled workersparticipated in conducting the pipeline route survey for 85 miles long and 24 inches diameter natural gas pipeline from PyaponTownship to Insein Ywama Gas Supply Station.Pipeline designing and cement coatingPipeline designing and cement coatingPipeline designing and cement coatingPipeline designing and cement coatingBased on observation about the offshore and inland pipeline route surveys, Worley Parson Company of Singapore created the pipelinedesign. The 24-inch diameter pipe to be laid at offshore is necessary to carry out cement coating for gaining designated weight andpreventing natural disasters. If the 24-inch diameter pipeline is not coated with concrete, the pipeline would rise up the sea floor dueto buoyancy. In consequence,
the pipeline may be broken automatically and crashed by ship. Bredero Shaw Company onBatam Island of Indonesia carried out the cement coating work of pipelines.Laying offshore pipelineLaying offshore pipelineLaying offshore pipelineLaying offshore pipelineThe preliminary survey work was performed during the period from 14-12-2009 and 15-1-2010 before laying thepipelines, and then offshore pipeline connection work was undertaken. Main pipeline laying vessels started the offshorepipeline connection work beginning 22-1- 2010. The concrete coated pipes were welt on board the vessel, and weldingworks were inspected with the use of X-ray and Ultra sound. The pipes were laid along the designated places of sea floorfrom the stern of the ship with the use of two main pipes laying vessels and 15 supporting ships. There was no difficult in laying pipelines near the Offshore Yadana Natural Gas Platform and at the deep sea area. However, the work was engaged with many difficulties at the entrance to the beach near Daw Nyein Village of PyaponDistrict due to shallow water at the sea and removal of fishing nets. In reality, the engineers could overcome thedifficulties successfully.Connecting inland pipelinesConnecting inland pipelinesConnecting inland pipelinesConnecting inland pipelinesThe engineers and skilled workers of Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise laid the 85.43 miles long pipeline from the pipelinecentre at Daw Nyein Village of Pyapon District to Insein Ywama Gas Supply Station through Pyapon, Dedaye,Kungyangon, Twantay Tawgyitan and Hlinethaya Township. Before the works, the training courses have been provided tothe welders for uplifting their work efficiency in 2009. As a result, a few disqualified welding connections was found alongthe pipeline with the use of X-ray and ultrasound called NDT Testing. The disqualified welding works were repaired. The24-inch diameter pipeline from the Pipeline Centre of Daw Nyein Village of Pyapon District to Insein Ywama Gas SupplyStation was laid under at seven places for eight times—Hline River three times and Panhlaing River and Twantay Canal,Toe River, Pyapon River, Dedalu River and Myogon Creek with the use of water the Horizontal Directional Drillingmachine.Myanma Oil and gase Enterprise bought HDD machine before 20-inch pipeline was laid down between Myainggalae and Yangon in 2006. Before this, pipeline was first laid down into water to dig through creek or river, so pipeline often brokeand leak. To dig a hole beneath river bed to link the two banks, pilot hole is first dug from one bank with HDD machineas shown in figure 1. After the pilot hole is dug, the hole is extended with reamer that is a little bit larger than diameterof pipeline to be connected (Shown in figure 2).
