Bill Clinton was president of the United States for two terms, from1993 to 2001, and is best known as the president who survivedimpeachment after a sex scandal.
 
William Jefferson (Bill) Clinton was born in Hope, Arkansas, onAugust 19, 1946.
 
Clinton was governor of Arkansas (1979-81, 1983-93).
 
42nd president of the United States (1993-2001).
 
His mother, Virginia Kelly, named him William Jefferson Blyth IV.
 
Malco movie theater 817 Central Ave. This theater was a favoriteplace for Clinton and his friends to while away summer afternoons.
 
Clinton spent the 1970s as a law professor and then AttorneyGeneral of Arkansas, and for most of the 1980s he was Governor of Arkansas.
 
His first term was characterized by a strong economic recovery,and in 1996 he beat RepublicanBob Doleand was re-elected.
 
His second term was dominated by scandal: accusations of corruption and investigations into rumors of his marital infidelity.
 
Clinton was accused of committing perjury and obstruction of  justice in his attempt to cover up an extra-marital affair with a WhiteHouse intern,Monica Lewinsky. In the subsequent senate trial, Clintonwas acquitted of the charges and remained in office.
 
His wife,Hillary Rodham Clintonwas elected as a U.S. Senator fromNew York in 2000, the first time a First Lady had ever been elected topublic office.
 
Clinton's father, William Blythe, died in a car accident beforeClinton was born; after his mother remarried, the future president tookthe last name of his stepfather, Roger Clinton.
 
While in office, Clinton was sued byPaula Jones, an Arkansas stateemployee who claimed Clinton had sexually harassed her in 1991.
 
Bill and Hillary Clinton have one daughter,Chelsea, who attendedStanford University while her father was president.
 
Clinton's memoir, "My Life," was published in 2004.
