As a parent and former School Board Trustee, I knowcrossing guards are critical tothe safety of our children. My opponents supported eliminating allcrossing guards. As school began last year, children crossed busy city streets at their peril.I spoke against these cuts in Councilmeetings and Letters to the Editor. Only after a great deal of pressure from parents, and amonth after school began, did the councilfinally relent and provide partial funding. The new budget once again has no fundingfor crossing guards. Meanwhile, Mayor Santos and Councilmember Starosciak votedto continue paying for free health clubmemberships and other perks for citymanagement. The crossing guards cost thecity just $35,000 year, less than 0.05% of our $70 million city budget. As Mayor, I will prioritize the safety of our children and restore crossing guards to all SanLeandro elementary schools immediately.I ask for your vote this November.Stephen Cassidy
