“Be right back.” he said, stepping over me, and walking away. I waited until his footsteps faded slightly, until sitting up and turning my head in the direction he went.
Another wave of vertigo hit me, lightly this time, but still enough for me to close my eyes and catch myself with my elbow before I fully hit the floor. I winced as a tingly pain reverberated up my arm, and waited until it was gone before I sat back up. I shrugged the blanket that was covering me off, and looked around.
I shivered as a rush of cool air hit me. I leaned down to pull the blanket back up, and fell back before I could.
(I know it's been awhile, but here's chapter four~!)

Chapter Four“Wake the hell up.”Zach mumbled groggily. I prodded him with my foot.“UP!”“God! What?!” He yelled, rolling over.“If you’re training to be a recruit you should be on a strict sleeping schedule of 10p.m. to 6a.m.” I reproved. He glared.“So, now I know not to kiss you, ‘cause it makes you such a witch.” I stopped and tried to hold my tongue. It really did not work.I turned around, seething. “You kissing me didn’t make me a witch. It was the lack of kissing, thereof making me into said witch. I don’t see you takingany initiative to apologize for being a jerk so much that you actually- you- you…” I broke off, and crossed my arms.He stared at me. I was breathing hard. He started to talk but I got my nerve back and continued.“If I bring out a different side of you then that’s a damn good thing because the other side has little to offer. Hell, the other side is the one I enjoyed kissing, so maybe I shouldn’t even be here with you!” I rambled. I knew I was being illogical. As I said, he was the first guy, ever, that I’d ever wanted and it was making me all girly-girl emotional.“Hele-”“Don’t you Helena me!” I said, and I could feel tears running down my cheeks. He got up and walked over to me. I turned my head away. I could feel drying tear-tracks on my face.“Helena.” he whispered. I don’t know how I got myself into this crap. Ibarely knew this guy, but, my lord. He was… I don’t know. It’s like he was a magnet and I was drawn to him.He took my face in his hands and pressed his forehead to mine, an intimate position I would have never let anyone get away with two days ago.“Tell me that you mean all that and that you despise my every being andthat you have somewhere else you can go.” I closed my eyes in defeat and remained silent.“That’s what I thought.”, he murmured and kissed me gently. I crumbled under his words and let him win. For once I let someone else have the upper hand.He brushed the hair out of my eyes and stared at me. I blinked my irritated eyes and leaned into his left palm, relishing the caress. This was so not me. Not at all.My world was falling apart. I had nowhere to live. I was letting someoneinto my heart. And I was about to faint as a searing pain went up me leg.My knees buckled beneath me. I grasped Zach’s shoulder.“Oh! The hell is-?”“Uhn. L-le-eg…” I stuttered, before losing consciousness.***I woke up and glimpsed a white expanse above me. It was extremely bright.“Tell me you’re awake for good this time?” came a gruff voice.I lifted my head, instantly laying my head back down as vertigo hit me.I brought my hands up to my forehead, clutching desperately in an attempt to ease the searing pain running through it.“So I take that as a yes? Lord knows even you couldn’t sleep with that much pain.”“Oh, ha-ha.” I muttered.Zach’s head appeared above my own face and I groaned. “How long’ve I been out?” I whispered, turning my head to the right and closing my eyes.“Mm… Bout… fifteen? Yeah, fifteen hours.”“FIFTEEN HOURS!? GOD!”

“Well, with the amount you’ve slept, I really hope that leg won’t be bothering you so much. Lord knows it was hard enough you being asleep… Not to mention the fact I had to move your heavy-ass.” he said, and I heard him flop back tothe ground.“Wait, what?”“I had to carry you over from where you were to below the upper openingso I’d have enough light to work.”“Work? On what…” I said, my nerves growing as I tried to sit up once more.“I wouldn’t do that-” he warned, but I was already up. My mouth droppedin a shameless gape.“What-the-f-” I was cut short by a quick jolt of vertigo, sending me flying onto my back with a cry of pain.I clutched for anything real. How the hell- how in the- why did this- god dang Lanceton!“So, what I was trying to say is that you probably wouldn’t want to do that because of the bloody mess all over the floor.” he commented sheepishly.“How did this happen? The nurse-”“The nurse was apparently an idiot. There are three torn ligaments and extensive tissue damage. I had to remove a lot. It wasn’t pretty. It was nowherenear pretty.”I groaned as searing pain went through my head again.“And the pain and vertigo?” I panted once the wave subsided.“You’re doped up on pain killers, simply put.”“Where the hell did you come across pain killers!?”“Oh, just had ‘em lying around…” he commented off=handedly.“How do just ‘have ‘em laying around? They’re freaking pain medication! Those became prescription-only in 2057! And expensive after the-”“Second American Revolution, I know.” he said, putting the subject to anend. We sat in silence a few moments. A few agonizing, awkward-filled moments.“What about recruiting? How’d you weasel out of that?”“I didn’t actually. They’re putting in one day intervals every two to three days, and they just let us out. Dunno why…”Oh, I did. Damn Lanceton. Thanks to him there would most definitely be another holocaust. Not discriminatory. Something just designed to freaking wipe out the planet with a strain of incurable virus.“Oi, you alright?”“Gotta use the fake-British accent?” I mumbled, rolling over and hissingas pain ran up my leg.“Fake? S’all real my darling!” he said. I snorted, coughing up blood inthe process.“Ugh… is that… normal? Bad, or what?” He looked at my hand, covered in my blood.“Nah, should be fine.” he said calmly, turning around and stooping to the floor to grab something.“Be right back.” he said, stepping over me, and walking away. I waited until his footsteps faded slightly, until sitting and turning my head in the direction he went.Another wave of vertigo hit me, lightly this time, but still enough forme to close my eyes and catch myself with my elbow before I fully hit the floor.I winced as a tingly pain reverberated up my arm, and waited until it was gonebefore I sat back up. I shrugged the blanket that was covering me off, and looked around.I shivered as a rush of cool air hit me. I leaned down to pull the blanket back up, and fell back before I could.“DAMN IT!” I screamed. My breathing became erratic as I felt my leg spasm and pain radiated through me.“What happened?” Zach yelled, pulling a shirt over his head and dropping

to his knees, sliding and coming to a stop beside me.“What the hell DID YOU DO!?” I yelled as another wave of pain rolled over me.He roared in protest, then turned to my leg. He pulled the blanket up, and I heard him swear.“Son of a bitch…”“What? WHAT!?”“Uh…”.“Tell me right now Zach! I wouldn’t be in this mess-”“Shut-the hell-up.” he commanded. Military training, what could I say? Oh, yeah, I couldn’t say anything. ‘Cause I shut the hell up.I felt him fumble with something, and then the pain went down a notch. Icould barely-just barely- feel what he was doing. Apparently he not only knew how to come by prescription pain meds, but also hospital-grade local-anesthetic.Okay, so yeah… Local anesthetic apparently wore off a bit after surgeryand hours of sleep.“WAT-CH I-I-T!” I squeaked. I could feel it happening. The scalpel running over my barely-healed, tender skin. It brought back things. Things I really didn’t want back.I panted with the effort of keeping my eyes open. I squeezed them shut momentarily as I felt another stab. I screamed in agony, my eyes flying open as my back arched away from the steel, into the scalpel, and tugging against the leather restraints.I gritted my teeth as I felt the warm fluid of god-knows-which organ rundown my skin. I twisted my wrists in the restraints, but I knew it was no use.I felt the flat of the blade run over my abdomen, then in one swift movement the tip made a jagged entrance below my left kidney. I felt it slide through my skin, and I screamed again, through my teeth. I bit my lip to stop myself, and I tasted the salty tang of blood on my tongue. Finally, the scalpel met the other incision, and I almost sighed in relief, were it not for the intense pain I was in. I whimpered as I felt the cool touch of a hand on my abdomen.“This is going to be fun.” I heard a whisper.“NO! PLEASE!” I screamed, flailing, making Zach’s hand near falter. He looked at me with anger flashing in his eyes, which turned to confusion. He pushed me back on my back with his right hand, and hovered over me. “Calm down or next time you won’t be so lucky as to me catching the scalpel.”, hewhispered. I whimpered and clutched the blanket in my hand, my nails falling over the fabric and cutting into my skin.“No, no please…” I mumbled. Zach must have been to preoccupied with whathe was doing to my leg.“OH, GOD!” I screeched as my leg jerked, Zach swearing and restraining me with one hand.“Stop!” I yelled, trying to fight him off.“Oh ho=ho, don’t try nothing now. Wouldn’t want you to lose more than little chunk of it!”I slackened my pull against the leather, screaming to a new high as I felt the metal plunge deeper, I could feel the smallest movements; of the blade, and the way the blood was falling over my skin, not to mention the subtle hint ofmy organs themselves moving.I threw my head back and let out a rasp of a screech, agony filling it.Begging is what Lanceton wants. Don’t do it…“Zach, no, stop!” I screamed, tears falling down my cheeks.“I don’t know what is going on but if I don’t do this it’ll have to be amputated. Otherwise, you need to pull through it.” he yelled over my incessant cries. I couldn’t, no, no, no…
