tote bag out of 2placemats.Materials:*2 Fabric Placemats
(Pictured placemats wereapproximately 14 inches by19 ½ inches.)
*Rotary cutter and mat.*Scissors*Coordinating thread*Sewing Machine

1. Using a rotary cuttercut 2 ½ inches off of onelong side of each placemat.These pieces will becomethe handles. Set themaside for now.2. Place the two largepieces right sides togetherwith the long cut edgesand hemmed short sidestogether. Pin along 3 sidesleaving the uncut long sideopen.3.
 
Using a straightstitch sew along the3 sides that werepinned in theprevious step usinga ½ inch seamallowance.4.
 
Zig-zag over anyraw edges toprevent raveling.Opening-Do not sew.

5. Fold each bottomcorner of the bag into atriangular point and pin.The seam should be at thetop in the middle. Stitch astraight seam 2 ½ inchesfrom the point. Do thisstep for both sides of thebag while it is turnedwrong side out.6. This is what thebottom corners of yourbag should look likewhen you turn the bagright side out.7. To make the handles youwill need the two 2 ½ inchpieces you cut off at thebeginning. Fold each pieceinto thirds enclosing the cutedge inside. Pin in place.The handles will be 1 inchwide.
