Description

I use Arthur C. Clarke's short story, "The Star," and Olaf Stapledon's novel "The Star Maker" to deal with a very difficult theological problem that "theodicy" fails to address convincingly: the all-powerful God, His relatively powerless creatures, and the impossibility of any kind of relationship between them. I call the resulting mental model of the universe "the Scripted Universe," with all the negative philosophical implications that flow from it.
