“COINs are everywhere!”

Oct 7-9, 2010, SCAD SavannahDeadline for abstract submission: Extended to August 12, 2010

The second international conference on Collaborative InnovationNetworks (COINs) brings together practitioners, researchers andstudents of the emerging science of collaboration. The emergence of online social networks opens up unprecedented opportunities to readthe collective mind, discovering emergent trends while they are stillbeing hatched by small groups of creative individuals. The Web hasbecome a mirror of the real world, allowing researchers to study andbetter understand why some new ideas change our lives, while othersnever make it from the drawing board of the innovator.

Collaborative Innovation Networks, or COINs, are cyberteams of self-motivated people with a collective vision, enabled by technology tocollaborate in innovating by sharing ideas, information, and work.Although COINs have been around for hundreds of years, theyare especially relevant today because the concept has reached itstipping point thanks to the Internet. COINs are powered by swarmcreativity, wherein people work together in a structure that enablesa fluid creation and exchange of ideas. ‘Coolhunting’ – discovering, analyzing, and measuring trends and trendsetters – puts COINs toproductive use. Patterns of collaborative innovation frequently followan identical path, from creator to COIN to collaborative learningnetwork to collaborative interest network.

The theme of the conference combines a wide range of interdisciplinary fields such as social network analysis, group
