Impacting Our Communities for Christ...
The theme for the SBC Convention this year was LoveLoudthrough the GreatCommission. It isbased on 1 John3:18 (NASB) “Littlechildren, let us notlove with word or withtongue, but in deedand truth.” SBCPresident JohnnyHunt said, “It is notsimply enough to say; we must do! We have embracedwhat we believe. It is now or never to engage this genera-tion with what we believe-the Gospel. Our nation is lost.We have the answer. Let’s do it!”I say amen to Dr. Hunt’s emphasis! Long gone are the daysthat our families, neighbors, co-workers, and classmatesare going to stop by our local church and visit just becauseit’s Sunday morning and the doors are open. It is impera-tive, as Dr Hunt says, that we engage those people that weinteract with,on a daily basis, with the Gospel. We have thekey that will open their lives to contentment and purpose-the Gospel. We have the answer that they are searchingfor in all the wrong places. So what are we going to doabout it?LoveLoud challenges us to get out of the walls of ourchurch and engage our communities. We demonstrateGod’s love as the Holy Spirit leads us to reach out inmultiple ministries that open the door to share God’s love.I want to share just a few of those LoveLoud ministries thatare happening in our association. I am so thankful for ourpastors who are leading their church to engage their com-munity with the Gospel. Remember I am limited on spaceso I am only using a few creative community outreachministries going on.Pastor Daniel Wong, New Hope Community Church, Sac-ramento, led his church to reach out to youth last Summeroffering a Sports Camp for the youth of his community. Thisyear he will expand his outreach through the Treasure Box,www.thetreasurebox.org, a food distribution program.Pastor Larry Mitchell, Greater Light of Light Baptist Church,Rancho Cordova, is reaching out to the homeless givingthem not only a meal, but an opportunity to hear the Gospel.Pastor Bob Richardson, FBC Del Paso Heights and MissionChurch Pastor Ben Rivers, For His Glory Church, prayer walk theircommunity together and take time to engage community membersas they walk and pray.Pastor Armondo Mendoza, Iglesia Bautista la Familia, meeting atNew Hope Community Church, Sacramento, reaches out to mi-grant workers and their families.Pastor Y J Jimenez, FBC Oranvale, reaches out to the communityby giving a devotion before the Auburn Rodeo begins, he leadsservices at the Sheriff Posy Arena in Sacramento, and preachesonce a month for the Cowboy Church at Middletown. These are just a few ways our pastors are leading their churchesin getting outside their churches and engaging their communitieswith the Gospel. We have the answer, let’s get out there and do it!
 Much Love,Dennis
Looking for a way to help those in your community that are hurtingfinancially? Consider partnering with The Treasure Box.This Christian based ministry is based in the L.A. area and are justabout to start distributing food in the Sacramento Area. DougMetcalf is the sales representative for Northern California. Doug isa Southern Baptist pastor from Georgia. This is a great opportunity for churches in our association to dosomething for people in their communities and it doesn't cost thechurch any money. In fact, the churches are paid 75 cents for everybox they distribute. Basically, a Treasure Box is a box of food worthabout $100 that is sold for $30. People preorder and prepay for thefood during the first part of the month. The menu for the month islisted on the website so peopleknow what they are purchasingbefore they buy. At the end ofthe month they pick up theirorder. The church is responsi-ble for receiving the orders anddistributing the boxes of food.If your church is interested in partnering in this ministry go to theirwebsite:www.thetreasurebox.org.they have a video from KTLAon the website so you can see the food that is in a typical treasurebox. (click on the "see what's up at the treasure box" link). They'vealready had media exposure on two local TV stations.
