BORROWING CHURCHEQUIPMENT?
If you need to borrow equipment from thechurch, please call the church office and letme know. With graduation parties andsummer picnics and garage sales oftenpeople just come in and take the tables andchairs assuming no one else needs them. This can cause confusion and other churchmembers are left without when they havecalled ahead and requested items. So giveme a call at 223-0224 or email me atchurch1@choiceonemail.comto reservedneeded items. Thank you. Cathy Kinton

3 THE EPISTLE
PASTORAL PERSPECTIVE
This is the last Epistle until the end of Augustwhen we come out with our “Welcome Back Issue.” I’m sure that most of you are lookingforward to the summer and a bit of a rest fromthe normal routine. I hope that you all willhave an opportunity to do a little re-creation,spending more time together as a family andotherwise enjoying some leisure.Of course, you know that God doesn’t take avacation and that part of your summer routineshould be Sunday worship. If you are in town, make a special effort to join others at Sundayworship. Things are a bit more relaxed in thesummer with a hiatus from Church School. You will have a more leisurely fellowshiptime to catch up with folks you may not havehad a chance to spend time with.In the last issue of the Epistle, I mentionedthat our liturgy for the summer will reflect thesimplicity of our worship pace. Our first hymnwill be a festive one and after the greeting wewill move directly to the children’s message, the prayer of the day and the word. Normallywe have three lessons and a psalm response. This will not necessarily be the case in thesummer. There will also be times when wewill depart from the assigned readings.
Doyou have sermon suggestions? Let me knowby e-mailing me.
Finally remember that ourchoir takes a much needed break in July andAugust and that “their spot” is filled by“special music”. Do you sing, or play aninstrument. Sign up for a Sunday on themoveable bulletin board in Fellowship Hallor e mail or call the church office.Your church council and the membershipcommittee are aware that we need to reachout with a welcome and invite men andwomen, youth and children into ourcommunity of faith. We all know that thechurch (our church, most churches) need togrow; not only in numbers, but also incommitment to the work of Christ.Over the next year, and more, we are goingto be making a special effort to reach outwith a warm welcome. Are there things weshould be doing in order to do this well? Letme, or any council member, or membershipcommittee member know. When Welcome Back Sunday comes aroundon September 12, we will have a beautifulnew entrance into the church from theparking lot. This “Memorial Door” with thecrafted and lighted stained glass cross madeby John Hecker will be a welcominginvitation to the life of First Church. Thebuilding is important because it houses apeople committed to the work of JesusChrist here and away. More important, though, is the welcome exhibited bymembers as they reach out to others.Do you know someone who is looking for achurch home; a church that is small enoughto make you feel welcome, but also largeenough to be able to offer opportunities forworship, learning, fellowship and service?Invite them to join you at worship andintroduce them to others. We have a wonderful story to tell. Help usget it out. Finally, if you are traveling this summer, take time to worship. Bring back a bulletinand we’ll post it.Your pastor,
