Halloween Derric Saville October 1991 Hounds wail, hoods drawn taught, all the children, beg their souls for candy, lanterns full of pumpkin faces, light the darkened lanes, on top of picket fence posts shriek black cats, wrenching bodies, hidden in the black hole of night, every ghoul rises from the grave, takes on human form, enticing us to believe in ghosts, avoiding nearest graveyards, not even looking in for fear of seeing. inching forward in the windy, silent streets near home. frightened by the slightest sound, of fear in the hoary woods near the river bed, where old man Lacy died. tic toc bellows the clock tower, high above the wild night, enchanted by the ghostly dancers. cautiously approaching every door, haughtily move to rap the wood, images fill the house, shadows loll past like clouds under a fast moving sun, digging deep into hearts, to last until the, ringing bell stops calling every dead creature of the night, Halloween is for the children to live in fear.
