Maliha Mustafa wants to know how you have changed your life, and what was your “pivotal moment.” She’s campaigning on the platform of positive change. “This is aonce in a lifetime opportunity to influence positive change on a massive scale,” Malihasaid. “I’d cover diverse topics and diverse people. This show is for everyone, includingyou. One of my pivotal moments was last year when I was laid off and decided to use it asa chance to reconnect with my family. This is one of the inspirations behind my show’s concept ‘Pivotal moments, PositiveChange.’ I want to capture inspirational stories that people can learn from and be empowered by—whether it be a pivotalmoment in one’s life or major cultural events, like reexamining 9-11 from untold angles. My concept ‘pivotal moments,’ really,is merely a lens in which to cover a range of diverse topics, including education, tolerance, women, socio-economicequity/access, and business—my professional field.”“I’ve always been a social creature, and connecting with others fulfills me.
To cover relevant topics with a live studioaudience and receive live feedback would allow for substantive dialogue, and my diverse experiences equip me to leadthis exchange in a meaningful way. Thus, when Oprah announced her contest, I immediately seized the opportunity.
Recently, I also began my job search, and this is a great way to gain new skills for the long-term. I’ve used it as a chance toapproach people I wouldn’t have had access to before. I’ve already uploaded a few interviews on my Facebook page.” Malihaadds, “And, I have confirmed interviews with the founders of SparkNotes, OkCupid (a national online match-making service)and another in an academy entirely based online that’s providing free access to education globally (Khan Academy). Maliha, aMidwesterner and born in Bangladesh, would become the first South Asian woman on the new Winfrey Network, and perhapson any main-stream major network.Stay up to date on her Facebook page “Vote Maliha for Positive Change.”
