Published by Maliha Mustafa
PRESS Release is story of ex-Lehman employee making Oprah's top 15 in her national search to find the next talk show star. This is a great inspirational story: It’s a story of someone taking her personal hardship, and how she wants to learn about others’ pivotal moments and translate it into something people will enjoy learning about--- how she will inspire others to achieve their dreams, make it through tough times by sharing the good news, struggles, achievements and pivotal moments of people just like you.

“When I was laid off from the corporate world 12 months ago, I knew I was at a crossroads…in hindsight it was a pivotal moment that I can now see changed my life forever,” Maliha Mustafa says.

From Maliha (her mass email to friends)

Friend,

I hope this email finds you well. I am campaigning for the chance to host my own Talk Show on Oprah’s new network. This is an ephemeral chance to make a positive impact on a massive scale through content delivery. Oprah elevated the traditional talk show into a medium for substantive dialogue. I would carry forward that commitment. My audition concept “pivotal moments” is merely a way to connect a range of topics with a common theme—to cover a point, and tie in the macro ripple effects.
They include: education, business (my professional field), tolerance (ethnic, religious, sexual preference, etc.), socio-economic equity / access, and women.
But, I’d do this by covering stories, not agendas. I’d make a concerted effort to capture diverse stories, diverse people. My show will be targeted for all audiences. I have confirmed interviews w/ the founders of SparkNotes, OkCupid (a free match-making service), and Khan Academy (a non-profit providing free education to all). Connect w/ me for updates.

Thank you for your irreplaceable time. Please FORWARD.
Regards,
Maliha

Maliha Mustafa among top contenders in the national “Next Oprah” search
Vote online often for Maliha Mustafa as she increases her chances of making the final  five for Oprah Winfrey’s national search for the next talk show star. Mustafa is in thetop 15 among more than 4,000 entries. The top 5 will compete for the chance to host their own show.
Maliha Mustafa wants to know how you have changed your life, and what was your “pivotal moment.” She’s campaigning on the platform of positive change. “This is aonce in a lifetime opportunity to influence positive change on a massive scale,” Malihasaid. “I’d cover diverse topics and diverse people. This show is for everyone, includingyou. One of my pivotal moments was last year when I was laid off and decided to use it asa chance to reconnect with my family. This is one of the inspirations behind my show’s concept ‘Pivotal moments, PositiveChange.’ I want to capture inspirational stories that people can learn from and be empowered by—whether it be a pivotalmoment in one’s life or major cultural events, like reexamining 9-11 from untold angles. My concept ‘pivotal moments,’ really,is merely a lens in which to cover a range of diverse topics, including education, tolerance, women, socio-economicequity/access, and business—my professional field.”“I’ve always been a social creature, and connecting with others fulfills me.
To cover relevant topics with a live studioaudience and receive live feedback would allow for substantive dialogue, and my diverse experiences equip me to leadthis exchange in a meaningful way. Thus, when Oprah announced her contest, I immediately seized the opportunity.
Recently, I also began my job search, and this is a great way to gain new skills for the long-term. I’ve used it as a chance toapproach people I wouldn’t have had access to before. I’ve already uploaded a few interviews on my Facebook page.” Malihaadds, “And, I have confirmed interviews with the founders of SparkNotes, OkCupid (a national online match-making service)and another in an academy entirely based online that’s providing free access to education globally (Khan Academy). Maliha, aMidwesterner and born in Bangladesh, would become the first South Asian woman on the new Winfrey Network, and perhapson any main-stream major network.Stay up to date on her Facebook page “Vote Maliha for Positive Change.”
