fractions less than 1
How to change the denominator of a
fraction?
multiply both the numerator and the
denominator with a fraction = 1
1/3 = 1/3 X 3/3 = 3/9
2/5 = 2/5 X 5/5 = 10/25
Types of Fractions
 Decimal fraction :
fractions expressed in 10th, 100th…
3/10 0.3; 67/100 0.67
 Percent :
In every hundred (you must change the
denominator to 100)
89/100 89%; 7/10 70%
4/100 4%
Ordering fractions
To ordering the fractions you have to make the
denominator into a same number first
6/7, 3/7, 5/7 3/7, 5/7, 6/7

2/3, 1/2, 5/6 = 4/6, 3/6, 5/6

3/6, 4/6, 5/6 = 1/2, 2/3, 5/6
Mixed Numbers
mixed numbers are fractions that more than 1
and written by mixing complete number and
proper fraction

4/3 = 4÷3= 1 1/3

5/2 = 5÷2 = 2 1/2

Adding and Subtracting Fractions
To adding/ subtracting fractions, the denominators
must be same numbers.
We mustn’t adding the denominator.

3/5 + 1/5 = 4/5

2 3/7 + 3 2/7 = 5 5/7
1/4 + 1/2 = 1/4 + 2/4 = 3/4
4/7 - 1/7 = 3/7
2/3 - 1/6 = 4/6 – 1/6 = 3/6 = 1/2
Multiplying Fractions
To multiply fractions, we just need to multiply
both of the numerator and denominator.

2/5 X 1/2 = 2/10 = 1/5

8/9 X 7/8 = 56/72 = 23/36

2 3/5 X 3 1/2 = 13/5 X 7/2 = 91/10 = 9 1/10

Dividing Fractions
To divide fractions, exchange the position of
the numerator and the denominator of the last
fraction, then multiply it

3/7 ÷ 5/8 = 3/7 X 8/5 = 24/35

2 3/4 ÷ 1 2/3 = 11/4 ÷ 5/3 = 11/4 X 5/3 = 55/12
= 4 7/12
