A thunderstorm. No big deal. Thisis Oklahoma. We have lots of them. And onlythose with thepotential for atornado cause usconcern, or those with softball size hail. But just a thunderstorm—nah. We like rain. Butthen, it keeps on raining—and raining—andraining. Now it’s pouring. What started as aninnocent thunderstorm is a proverbial frogstrangler—a Noah moment with flooding.I know. I was right in the middle of it withmy small (and getter smaller by the minute)fun, frugal, and functional Hyundai—tryingto get to the church. Thankfully, I madeit—two and one half hours into the process, but I made it.Once again, I was amongst the blessed. I was safe. My car was safe. And my neigh-borhood was spared. But for many, it was adifferent story. Homes were flooded. Livesendangered. Furniture ruined. Carpetsdestroyed. Appliances damaged. And wallssoaked—up to five feet in some cases.Such was Monday, June 14, 2010. Atleast one of those homes damaged by theflooding belongs to a church family—Jimand Lisa Turner. Another belongs to the Altdoerffers, dear friends of another churchfamily and neighbors of another. Here, onlythe heroic efforts of a grandson saved the livesof physically impaired and frail grandparents. As of this date, the First Christian Churchfamily is set to receive $1500 from Weekof Compassion for these two families to goalong with another $2500 from our ownuncommitted Outreach funds. We are alsotrying to line up work crews for repairs if and when needed. Perhaps you wouldlike to help—financially and/or manu-ally. Simply make your donations to FirstChristian Church identifying them for FloodRelief. Designate that donation if it is forany one particular family. Should you wishto volunteer labor and/or repair equipment, call me at the church or email me at
