Description

PT Media Data Riset has succeeded in preparing a study in hospital services in Indonesia. The background of this study is the increasing growth of private hospitals, either in quantity or its quality service.

Although central government gave authority to regional government to operate regional hospital by self financing, but their condition is still growing relatively slow, which is from 1.178 hospitals in 2001 to 1.268 hospitals in 2005, or grew by 1,9% each year. In this case, the government is providing more General hospitals (RSU) than specialized hospitals (Heart Hospital, Mental Hospitals, maternity hospitals, Eyes hospitals, Leprosy hospitals, and so on). As a description, in 2005 there were 995 General Hospitals with 116.286 beds, but only 273 specialized hospitals with 20.480 beds.

According to Department of Health, the number hospitals runs privately is growing continuously every year, from 2001 were 580 unit grew around 7,9% to 626 unit in 2005, or grew averagely 2% annually. In the same period, the growth of private general hospitals was 17,3% from 411 to 436 units. The same thing for specialized hospitals grew around 12,4% from 169 to 190 units.

Most of the private hospitals which operate in big cities are profit oriented, especially high rank private hospitals full of competition in service quality to the international standard, such as Siloam Gleneagles (Lippo group), Medistra (Astra Group), Metropolitan Medical Centre (MMC), Graha Medika, Honoris, Ongkomulyo Medical Centre (OMC), Mitra Keluarga. Even the high rate of private hospital does not discourage the patients from middle-up community. Aside from the professional service, private hospitals are equipping with various facilities and sophisticated apparatus.

The discussion in this study includes description and development of hospitals, the profile of government and private hospitals, marketing and promotion of service, and future prospects. This study also equipped with the discussion of health clinic trends in Jakarta, which has vastly grew recently, and the discussion of pharmacy sector, and medical equipments. Besides, this report provides various government policy and regulation, which involve health community service.

We hope that this study will be beneficial to those involve in hospital services business, including the decision makers in private hospital management. Hopefully this report will be beneficial to business circle who, directly or indirectly involve in hospital business, such as pharmacy industry, medical or non-medical equipment, banking, insurance, and future investor who wants to enter or develop this business.
