Dear friends:One of thegreatest gifts that aChristian community canoffer is hospitality, andwe know somethingabout that in our parish.At coffee hours,social events andluncheons, the ministryof hospitality is offeredgenerously. Afterfunerals and memorialservices, many grievingfamilies haveexperienced the warmthof St. Nick’s hospitalityas we host receptions inRobinson Hall.Our Greeters andSidespeople practicethe ministry ofhospitality every Sundaymorning as they greetpeople coming to thechurch.

The second annual GreatSt. Nick’s Book Sale hasbeen set for Saturday, Sept.25 and once again, we areasking for your help.Hang onto the summer‘dock reading’ make room fornew books on yourbookshelves, suggest to yournon-St. Nick’s friends thatthey do the same and thenbring all the books to thechurch in September for outsale.And of course, come backSept. 25 to buy lots ofreplacements.

The Community CareAccess Corporation recentlysent a representative named

to talkto us about the careavailable for seniors.Our group was small, butmighty, and as Maureen said,a very informed andenlightened few.Many people have askedme why I wanted to organizethis information day. Last year, I spent a year comingto church most Wednesdaysand Sundays. I appreciatedthe care I received from allof you and I wanted to dosomething in return. My mombenefited from the care ofthe CCAC and I knew therewere things from whichpeople of this parish wouldalso benefit.A few of them are:* A free footcare clinic;* Financial support topurchase supplies such ascatheters or needles;* An occupationaltherapist will come to yourhome and fit your bathroomwith toilet seats, bathtubbars or other safety items;* If you or your loved onneed support bathing or withpersonal care, a personalsupport worker will be madeavailable. They do notprovide cleaning servicesunless they are there tohelp with personal care.During that time, the PSWwill change the bedding,vacuum, clean the tub and dosome light cleaning;* From hospital to homeservices helps youreintegrate home after ahospital stay (driving youhome, shopping, picking upmedication);* You can ask for supportto cover medication costs;* The Canadian HearingSociety will come to yourhome, clean your hearing aidand tell you whether youreally need to purchase anew one;* Home at Last transitionservices will assess yourneeds after a hospital stayand help get services suchas a nurse, PSW and OT assessment;* A free dental clinicthrough Toronto PublicHealth.The following have asmall cost:* If you are the sole careprovider for a loved one and you want to go on a holiday, you can apply for your lovedone to go into short-termstay facilities at a cost of$35 per cay and you havetotal autonomy over thelocation and program;* Through the CCAC, youcan inquire about seniorhousing. These areapartments that aredesigned for seniors and therental is based on a fixedincome;* For those who are full-time caregivers to a lovedone with dimentia andAlzheimers;* They have Adult DayPrograms for you loved one,who will be picked up anddropped at home. A full dayof activities, social time,snacks and lunch is providedfor a small cost on a slidingscale.Please let me know if youneed any help.I am happy to say I amrecovered and doing well.Thank you for your prayers.
