REFLECTION

The day when a performed my lesson, a lot of people asked me if I was nervous or scared,
but my answer was “No, I am very relax and comfortable”. I was not sure about how the
children were going to react with me or if the activities were going to work or no; however
I was sure of my abilities as a teacher and of my knowledge.

When I arrived that day to the school, my guide teacher called me and said that she was
late, so I thought “this day is not starting as I imagined”, but that situation does not worried
me, I was completely focus on doing my best in front of the class. For that reason I started
by my own.

In the course, I was teaching the Unit 2 named “At the school”. This Unit was divided into
six classes. In the first class I taught them the school’s materials and the places at school,
the second class; I gave them a wide variety of exercises and I taught them the numbers
from 1 to 12. The third class; I taught the “Timetables”, explaining the days of the week
and the school’s subjects. The activity of that day was to create their own timetable with
different colors and materials.

The fourth day (the observation’s day), we did a lot of different activities. The first 45
minutes, I explained one more time the school’s subjects and the days of the week in order
to internalize this information into the children’s mind. The activity that I performed was a
brief review of the topic with colored images and then I gave to the children printed
activities of a small text that explained the subjects that a girl had during a week in
conjunction with a picture of the girl’s timetable that they must paint. The second 45
minutes the children finished their previous work, the creation of their own timetable.

When I created these activities I visualized the children. I imagined the behaviors and needs
of every boy and girl of the fourth grade. For that reason I thought that children were going
to love these activities because they had the opportunities to paint, to create new things and
to exchange different information with their classmates. However, when I put the activities
into practice I realized that the activities are not always for every student. Why? Well, it is
very simple, because sometimes the behavior of the boy or girl changes and the activity that
the previous day loved, the next day hate. And for this reason we have to be prepared to
modify or change the same activity on a new one.

I am not saying that the activities did not work in the class because the children work very
well with them; however, I have to recognize that I had more expectations with the
children’s results, but this situation is something that we have to pass and face through this
practice because this the instance of correct our mistakes and grow as teachers. For this
reason, I immediately considered all the advices and corrections that the teacher gave me as
feedback because she could see my performance from the outside, recognizing my
weaknesses and strengths as a prospective teacher.
