1. What are your reasons for running for office?
I have multiple reasons justifying my run for governor of Michigan as an Independent in 2010. As a faithful and accountable husband and parent, I see no candidates for governor who I would want my children, or anyone’s children, toaspire to be like except for myself. I am a lifelong volunteer; infact, I still run a bowling league for mentally-challenged individuals here in Midland every year. As a small businessowner and former Fortune 500 company employee, I amfrustrated and angry by the arrogance and indifference of not

only our legislators but also the bureaucrats we deal with every day here in Michigan and in Washington. Third, I don’t claim toknow everything about every aspect of Michigan’s business and government landscape, but I am humble enough and intelligent enough to quickly learn the aspects of what hindrances and other requirements are necessary to return Michigan to the hands of the business sector and private sector in general. Finally, as Ihear the other candidates talk yet again about the same issues Ifirst voted with in 1984 (national security, health care, illegal immigration, jobs, education, crime/security, etc), I know that theoverwhelming majority of Michiganders realize that legislatorsand governors do nothing but talk and spend. My goal is to get every dollar back into the pockets of our citizens and businessesso that we can compete not only nationally but globally as well. One more thing: as a county commissioner in Midland in2005/06, I gave away my salary and took no other mileage/per diem pay. I also presented a plan within 90 days of taking officein which I proposed to reduce local, state and federal taxes by offsets which would reduce our tax burdens by over 30%. I did this after consulting Dow Chemical executives, Dow Corningexecutives and Midland CoGeneration Venture (MCV) executivesas well as various small business owners. As a countcommissioner or as a state legislator, I am just one voice in alarge group of self-concerned politicians. As governor of Michigan, immediately upon my election in November, we the people and business leaders of Michigan will setup a business plan, including taxation reforms and offsets, which will quickly give consumers and businesses the confidence to reinvest inMichigan.

What is your definition of limited gov’t?

My term of limited government is simple: the less government we need, whether in day-to-day bureaucracy to elected officials,is better for everyone in the long run. We private citizens and businesses can spend our money better than any government agency. We can still take care of the less fortunate; we can still educate our society, fix our roads and secure our nation. Without  private tax dollars and hope for new jobs, we see how depressed our state has become. By allowing us to take charge of thisgrowth of government power, we can quickly turnaround inmonths what has taken decades to destroy. We haven’t seenthe best days of capitalism, free markets and competition for thebest use of our dollars. If I’m elected and allowed to work withour citizens and business owners, you will see how limited government needs to be. We shouldn’t have to beg legislatorsand other government employees to let us have our money back.Limited government should be the smallest amount of tax expenditure necessary so that we the people can determine howwe want to spend our own money; we shouldn’t be held hostageby an expensive and inefficient, unaccountable system. I believewe need to have a well-trained and equipped military that  protects our borders and us citizens; after that, we business people can set the budgets to as low a tax burden as possible sothat we can invest in new businesses, private investment groupsor spend our money as we wish. The current system is theopposite of what our forefathers envisioned a limited government to be.
