1. What is the most inspiring insight or idea you
gained from the WCIT?
• Government should not develop services by themselves but supply public
data for reuse (2x) – Beth Noveck

• Everyone is looking for a more societal engagement of ICT

• The way younger generation use, create and rank digitized information -
“Informatie verspreiden is rijkdom verspreiden die anders geen waarde
creëert.”

• The Digital Agenda will move Europe and the Member States and can be
used to accelerate developments.

• ……….
Which theme did the WCIT bring to the forefront, that
should get a follow up in the near future, and why?
• Collaborative production of eGovernment. Still a focus on ‘One Government’
prevales.

• Enterprise (Semantic) Interoperability (web3.0). Although it is one the

means to put across the value of ICT, it is crucial to reach true
interoperability and thus show the real value of ICT including the quality of
information.

• Gap between youngsters and elderly ‘we need younger generation for
guidance’

• …….
Looking back at the process: What surprised you
most, in a positive way?
• Working and having fun with a diverse bunch of people (2 x)

• Working together with partners and bringing on top-level speakers and

content.

• That we were able to create meaning for everyone, even it seemed

sometimes as if we never could get out of the chaos.

• The good atmosphere at the pavilion

• Good returns of the Braincell

• ………
And what did you find most annoying?

• The WCIT was a great success even though the number of

participants/delegates was disappointing (2x)

• Process of inviting delegates.

• Change of rule of engagement very late in the process of what a sponsor

could or couldn't do.

• Communication and a lot of work to restore/repair miscommunication.

• Logistic organisation by Winkelmann and van Hessen.

• There was no central governance (although interesting experiment)

The quote of the WCIT for me:
• Not ICT but the value ICT it has for people (='de menselijke maat') and how
they deal with that, is the real driver for ICT innovation.

• Collaborate or die (2x)

• eGov or We Gov (2x)

• Not enough leadership and leaders who translate visions into actions

• Nice event which brought a unique Group of people, especially from Europe
and the Netherlands, together.
