TheFTSEsnappeda4daylosingstreakMondayasminersreturnedtofavour,trackingstrongermetalprices.Themarketadded25pointsandfinishedtheday+0.5%,theDAX+1.4%andtheCAC+1.6%.

Banks -

BankswerethebiggestunderperformersonthedayasStandardCharteredreportedweakerthanexpectednumbersandHSBCwascutfromBUYtoNEUTRALbyNomura.Thestocksfinisheddown1.8%and0.4%respectivelywhileLloydsmanagedtobuckthetrendadding2.2%courtesyofanupgradetoBUYfromNomura.

Commodities Commentary

Miners -

Minerswerestrongerasinvestorslookedtosnapupafewbargainsafteraweeklongselloffacrossthesector.Copperclimbedtowarditshighestlevelsinamonthwhilenickeladded4.6%.Fresnillo,AntofagastaandAngloadded2.2%to4.9%whileBHPandRIOadding0.8%and2.1%.

Energy -

14yearlowsprovedtobeamentalsupportlevelforBPasinvestorsboughtintothestockafterweeksofsellinghasseenthestockmorethanhalveinvalue.Thestockadded1.5%withRDSAfollowingsuitup0.9%.BGwastheblacksheepoff0.4%asinvestorswerestillsouredbythereportingofadrywellintheNorthSealastweek.
