LYNN - The surveillance of a Lynn address by the U.S. Marshals Service and Lynn police lead to the
arrest of a North Carolina man who is wanted by police in connection with a shooting incident that
occurred in late April.

Tony “Big Red” Person, 27, of Durham, N.C., was arrested and charged with being a fugitive from
justice based on charges in North Carolina and resisting arrest on June 18. He will be arraigned in Lynn
District Court today, beginning the rendition process to North Carolina.

The U.S. Marshals Service developed information that led them to initiate the surveillance of 26
Brookvale Street for Person who, according to reports published in North Carolina, had been charged
by Durham Police with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and assault with a
deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury on April 29.

Lynn police detectives assisted with the June 18 surveillance and at approximately 12:30 p.m., a subject
believed to be Person left the address. He fled on foot before finally being apprehended and placed in
custody nearby. Person was then transported to the police headquarters where police learned he had
been staying with relatives. No charges have been brought against anyone from the Brookvale Street
home.

On May 11, police apprehended a second suspect in the April 29 shooting on Union St. in Lynn during
what police believed to be a narcotics transaction. Lebron “Gutta” Brown, 21, of Durham, North
Carolina, was arrested and charged with being a fugitive from justice based on North Carolina charges.
Brown was chased on foot before being found hiding in a bedroom.

Initial charges were brought against Person and Brown after they allegedly shot Durham Police Chief
Jose Lopez’s unmarked car as he drove in the downtown area. Occupants of two vehicles were firing
shots at each other while traveling northbound on South Roxboro Street around 2 p.m. when a shot was
fired at Lopez’s vehicle and hit the front windshield. He was not injured.
