Valtrex, Famvir, and Zovirax are the leading herpes
prescription treatments, with Valtrex and Zovirax being
particularly popular. When used for cold sore or genital
herpes treatment, antivirals Valtrex, Famvir, and Zovirax
work by slowing HSV -- the Herpes Simplex Virus -- giving
the body's immune defenses an advantage in ultimately
destroying HSV viral strains at the skin's surface. Neither
Valtrex, Famvir, or Zovirax will cure an HSV infection: they
work solely as treatments for herpes outbreaks.

Valtrex, Famvir, and Zovirax have been demonstrated to
work in treating cold sore or genital herpes outbreaks, but
they aren't necessarily perfect options. All three treatments
require a prescription, have to be taken on a consistent
basis to work, and have the capacity to cause side effects
and impact bodily organs, perhaps the kidneys in particular.
This isn't to say that Valtrex, Famvir, and Zovirax shouldn't
be used: if they've been prescribed and are working in a
satisfactory way, do not stop using them. But you may be
interested to know that there is a highly effective alternative
to these, and any other, prescription herpes treatments.

Though it isn't a widely known fact, zinc is an outstanding
treatment for both cold sores and genital herpes. Using zinc
for treating cold sore and genital herpes outbreaks will clear
the outbreaks much more quickly than they clear on their
own, will ease outbreak pain and discomfort, and will reduce
and even eliminate future outbreaks in treated areas. In
addition, zinc does not require a prescription to acquire, is
easy to find and is generally inexpensive, and does not
