Quotations from men who buy sex are taken frominterviews conducted by the authors and otherresearchers in December 2007 for an internationalresearch project on demand for prostitution (publicationpending), with thanks to Dr Melissa Farley of Prostitution Research & Education.Without the men who telephoned brothels andobtained the crucial information on which this report isbased, it would have been impossible to conduct thissurvey. Their work was often unpleasant and disturbing,but they behaved ethically and sensitively throughoutthe process.

This report is dedicated to the many women who have lost their lives as aresult of prostitution.
