Homai Campus

On Homai Campus change is not just looming out there – it is now upon us. The
Rimu Unit classes are now installed in the Music block; the Tui Unit will be
relocated next Monday into the Fale Kotuku building. Assessment is now in the
flat above the Clinic. Saturday’s garage sale is shaping up – there are many
treasures in the Hall. We do a great line in 60’s candlewick bedspreads!

As we move out Hawkins Construction are moving in. The Hawkins project
managers were meeting on Tuesday with a big group of tradesmen who will be
stripping the services out of the vacated buildings as the first stage of the
demolition process. The construction team will have the cream cottage as their
base and begin to move in on Monday. A large fence is about to appear around
the construction site.

On the design front, we are now at the end of the Developed Design phase and
are moving into the final stage which is Detailed Design.

I would like to congratulate the school on a wonderful final concert on
Wednesday last week – the last event in the Homai Hall after 45 years of events.
Ajay is to be commended for the way in which all of the children produced such
great music. Congratulations too to the teachers who are using the changes as a
positive teaching experience. ‘We are packing…we are moving’ to the strains of
Rod Stewart was delightful.

For those who couldn’t be there, the concert culminated in Sina singing Days of
Old Homai to the tune of Auld Lang Syne…

Should old acquaintance be forgot?
And never brought to mind
Should old acquaintance be forgot?
And days of old Homai
For old Homai my dear
For old Homai
We’ll raise a cup of kindness yet
For the sake of old Homai

The concert was followed by a blessing of the land in preparation for all of the
changes ahead. This was led by Brian Emery and was a moving event.
