Primary immunodeficiency
When part of the immune system is missing ordoes not work correctly, immunodeficiencyoccurs; it may be either congenital (primary) oracquired ( secondary).
Primary immunodeficiency diseases are aheterogeneous group of inherited disorders withdefects in one or more components of theimmune sstem.
Primary immunodeficiency diseases (PID) arehereditary disorders, caused by mutations of specific genes.
More than 150 different types of PID have beenreported to date.
Mutations: rare, affect any part of the immunesystem and cause severe disease
Polymorphisms: very common traits, affectmoderate increased risk for infection
Polygenicdisorders: relatively common, affectmainly antibodies and cause severe disease
