of companies wherethe risk is high and the returns are also proportionately high. The recent trends in the
have shown that an average retail investor always lost with periodic bearishtends. People began opting for portfolio managers with expertise in stock markets whowould invest on their behalf. Thus we had wealth management services provided by2

many institutions. However they proved too costly for a small investor. These investorshave found a good shelter with the
.Mutual fund industry has seen a lot of changes in past few years with multinationalcompanies coming into the country, bringing in their professional expertise in managingfunds worldwide. In the past few months there has been a consolidation phase going onin the mutual fund industry in India. Now investors have a wide range of Schemes tochoose from depending on their individual profiles.Today an investor is interested in tracking the value of his investments, whether heinvests directly in the market or indirectly through Mutual Funds. This dynamic changehas taken place because of a number of reasons. With globalization and the growingcompetition in the investments opportunity available he would have to make guided andrational decisions on whether he gets an acceptable return on his investments in the fundsselected by him, or if he needs to switch to another fund.In order to achieve such an end the investor has to understand the basis of appropriate preference measurement for the fund, and acquire the basic knowledge of the differentmeasures of evaluating the performance of the fund. Only then would he be in a positionto judge correctly whether his fund is performing well or not, and make the rightdecision. The project’s idea is to project Mutual Fund as a better avenue for investment on along-term or short-term basis. Mutual Fund is a productive package for a lay-investor with limited finances, this project creates an awareness that the Mutual Fund is aworthy investment practice. Mutual Fund is a globally proven instrument. MutualFunds are ”Unit Trust” as it is called in some parts of the world has a long andsuccessful history, of late Mutual Funds have become a hot favorite of millions of  people all over the world.3
