WKU STUDENT CROSS-COUNTRY BICYCLING GROUP RAISES $5,200

FOR ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION IN ELIZABETHTOWN STOP

(ELIZABETHTOWN, KY-July 2, 2010) Five Western Kentucky University students bicycling

across the country to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s research added more than
$5,200 to their campaign total in a meet-and-greet event at Best Buy in Elizabethtown today.
Approximately 200 supporters attended the lunchtime event, and enjoyed live music, giveaways
and a cookout-style meal, while hearing about some of the bicyclers’ backroads adventures.

The group, Fijis Across America, began their mission in Oceanside, Calif., on May 25, and will
finish in Yorktown, Va., later this month. The young men hope to raise $75,000, which they will
donate to the Alzheimer’s Association’s Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter. With
today’s funds, they now have raised more than $35,000.

Best Buy donated $1,000 for every 10 employees who attended the Dixie Highway location
welcome party today, and 30 associates came. Best Buy also donated a 42” flat screen TV for a
raffle; an 11-year old boy won the TV. Other donations came from individuals in attendance.

Nineteen-year-old WKU sophomore, Tyler Jury, assembled Fijis Across America in memory of
his grandfather, Barrett G. Cummings, who succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease in July 2009. Fiji
is a WKU fraternity that strives to embrace the core values of Friendship, Knowledge, Service,
Morality and Excellence. Those accompanying Jury on the trip are:
Chaz Vittitow, 21-year-old junior from Louisville

Wade Haga, 19-year-old sophomore from Lexington
Justin Cave, 18-year-old freshman from Glendale
Cameron Hamilton 20-year-old sophomore from Elizabethtown (attends UK)
