FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMWET PIPE SPRINKLER SYSTEMPART 1 – GENERAL
1.1.1DESCRIPTION
A.
Provide all labor, material, equipment and services necessary for and incidental tothe wet automatic sprinkler as shown on the Drawings and specified herein.B.Secure the services of a skilled and experienced fire sprinkler system contractor,licensed in this field to design and prepare complete hydraulic calculations and shopdrawings for the wet automatic sprinkler system.1.Design criteria for a hydraulically designed wet automatic sprinkler systemshall conform to the following design criteria:a.Minimum design criteria shall provide 0.20 gpm / sq.ft. (8.1 lpm / sq.m.) over the most remote 2000 sq.ft. (186 sq. m.) area of the system.b.Total system water demand shall include a minimum hose allowance of 250gpm (946 LPM).
c.
The total system water demand , including the 250 gpm (946 LPM) minimumhose allowance, shall be at least ten percent (10%) below the available water supply.d.Sprinkler head spacing shall not exceed 130 –sq.ft. (12.0 sq. m.) for OrdinaryHazard Group II ; for both upright, pendent, and ceiling concealed type andshall be “QUICK-RESPONSE TYPE”.e.Sidewall Sprinkler head spacing shall be Extended coverage type, “QUICKRESPONSE TYPE”.C.Furnish and install a Combined Wet Standpipe and Automatic Sprinkler System for the entire building, as indicated on the drawing and in accordance with therequirement of NFPA 14,13,101, and 20.D.The complete Combined Wet Standpipe and Automatic Sprinkler system shall betested and approved as required by the laws, ordinances, rules, regulations andorders of governmental authorities having jurisdiction over this work.1.1.2QUALITY ASSURANCEA.All work included in this section shall be of an approved type and installed inaccordance with and conform to the provisions of the test edition of NFPA No. 13and all other applicable NFPA pamphlets.
 
1.Where an automatic fire alarm system is required by the laws, ordinances,rules, regulations and orders of the governmental authorities having jurisdiction over this Work, provide an automatic fire alarm system and installin accordance with and conforming to the requirements of the governmentalauthorities editions of NFPA No. 71,72,74, and 1221 and all other applicableNFPA pamphlets.B.Comply with all laws, ordinances, rules, regulations and orders of governmentalauthorities having jurisdiction over this Work and secure any and all requiredpermits, approvals, test and / or certifications.C.Comply with all requirements of the Owner’s Insurance Consultants, and secureany and all required approvals.D.Comply with all requirements of the Owner and secure any and all approval.E.All equipment and devices shall be listed by Underwriters’ Laboratories, Inc. andaccepted by Factory Mutual Research Corporation.
F.
Welding and brazing, where applicable, shall be done in accordance with themethods set forth in the American National Institute for Power Piping, ANSIB31.1.0,1967 and including Addenda ANSI B31.1.OA, 1971 and ANSIB31.1.OB,1971.1.1.3SUBMITTALSA.Submit the following as specified hereinafter:1.Manufacturer’s Literature: Materials description and recommended installationinstruction for all specified equipment items. Furnish data covering manufacturer,model, model number, type, size, capacity and Underwriters’ Laboratories, Inc.and Factory Mutual Research Corporation listings for piping: fittings hangers;gages; valves; sprinkler heads; Siamese fittings; water-motor gong ; inspector’stest pipe; monitor switches; flow switches; water control valve tags; sprinkler head wall mounted cabinets; and automatic fire alarm system (where applicable).2.Shop Drawings:
a.
Submit five (5) sets of complete Shop Drawings. Complete ShopDrawings shall consist of manufacturer’s literature, site plan showing thelocation and size of the public or private water supply main, hydrauliccalculations, water flow test, wet automatic sprinkler system pipingdrawings including rough-in drawings and where applicable, wiring firealarm system drawings including wiring diagrams.1.Water Flow Test:
 
a.Provide written certification indicating the date of the flow testand the person or entity who conducted the test, including phonenumber and address.1.Water flow test shall be as current as possible and shall be noolder than one (1) year.b.Provide location of or distance to the point where the water flowwas performed.2.Hydraulic Calculationsa.If a gridded system is utilized, at least two (2) additional remoteareas shall be tried and shown to be less than the mostdemanding.3.Wet Automatic Sprinkler system Piping Drawings:a.The location of the most remote operating area shall be clearlyshown on the drawings.b.Before commencing work, secure the approvals , in the followingorder, of the following:

Prepare complete calculations and shop drawings for thesystem in conformance with all laws, ordinances, rules,regulations and orders of governmental authorities having jurisdiction over this part of the Work and secure any andall required written approvals from the local regulatingauthorities prior to submission to the Consulting Engineers.2.Submit shop drawings to the Consulting Engineers for thefollowing reviews and approvals:a.The Consultant:1.The Mechanical Consultant shall review andapproved the shop drawings.
c.
The fire Protection contractor shall make required revisions tothe shop Drawings and shall proceed in the following manner:1.If the Shop Drawings are stamped “No Exception Takenby all parties involved, the Fire Protection Contractor shallproceed with the fabrication and the installation of thework.2.If the shop drawings indicate any changes or exceptionsby any and/or all reviewing parties involved, the FireProtection Contractor shall proceed as follows:
