Do-It-Yourself Lung Model
Here's what you'll need...
An OLD pair of scissors (not your mother'sgood ones)Six inches of surgical tubingThree good-sized balloonsTwo rubber bandsA large lump of modeling clayA clear plastic one-liter bottleA three-way hose connector (available at thehardware store)
Step One: Assemble the "lungs"
Push the plastic tube into one opening of thehose connector.Use the clay to make an airtight seal.Tightly fix a balloon onto each of the other openings with the rubber bands, making surethe seal is airtight.
Step Two: Prepare the "chest cavity"
Carefully cut off the bottom 1 inch from the bottle, using the scissors. Make sure the cut edge of the bottle is smooth.Place the lungs (balloons and connector) inside, and seal the plastic tube into the neck of the bottle with the rest of the clay tomake an airtight fit.
