Free Church College, top of Mound; the foundation-stone of which was laid in
June 1846, by Dr Chalmers
Granton Pier about two miles from the city. It is 1700 feet long, and varies
from 80 to 160 the principal ferry to Fife
feet in breadth. It is now
Hawlhornden, about eight miles from the city - Admission to the grounds, Tues-
day, Wednesday, and Saturday, by ticket, 6d each for guide, obtained at gate near
Hawthornden Railway station. Children with visitors, free.

under and broader circle is adorned with twenty-two
precious stones, betwixt each of which is interposed
an oriental pearl the stones are topazes, amethysts,

the castle of Dunnottar to surrender upon honour-
able conditions, which were again rejected by the
